Fox Reporter James Hooper Sacked

True killing someone while DUI would be horrific but this act also has huge repercussions on his life going forward… The damage to his wife and kids (his wife is a respected journalist) and the fallout from the loss of his job, the car insurer won’t pay costs for all the vehicle damage, loss of his license etc etc.
Of course. There's the public shame, there's financial consequences. Not to mention drink driving is a crime - you can get jail for high range (even for mid range) so it's a serious situation for Hooper and his family.
When public figures get busted for stuff like this it highlights the issue of substance abuse. How did we get here? I've no idea

(Go VB! Go the Bundy Bear! Go the XXXX Maroons! Guzzle guzzle guzzle, pour it down the muzzle, More Beer!)

I remember when Hooper & Kent bullied Anthony Maroon on his Sunday Triple M radio show to the point Maroon walked off mid-air & Kent was fired for it.

In the build up on that day’s show, Maroon was trying to keep things light but started threatening to throw each of Kent & Hooper under the bus if they didn’t back off.

He kept asking Hooper why he (Maroon) had to pick him up every Sunday morning to bring him into to Triple M for the show, very heavily implying that Hooper had lost his license for similar back then.
Spot on...I was recalling this incident too. To bully Maroon so much that he walked out of Triple M was deplorable and he should've been fired with Kent.

Thank God he hasn't killed or injured anyone in this incident and hopefully addresses his issue.

Hooper on Ezra Mam's drunken crash
"
Fox League reported James Hooper believes Mam is going to have to expect the boos from fans, given the nature of his transgression.

“I think he will be OK at Suncorp because his first game back at Suncorp against the Dragons he got a reasonably mid-range reception,” Hooper said on The Back Page.

“But at away games absolutely he is just going to have to wear it because it made massive headlines and it upset a lot of people understandably.

“And most people think he got off lightly, so I would be thinking Ezra is going to have to learnt to handle the hostile reception.”

However, Socceroos legend Robbie Slater pointed out that Mam served the punishment he was given, which is all he can do.

“When you think about it, it is not his fault that he got off lightly,” Slater said.

“The action 100 per cent his fault, but it was the NRL who gave him the ban.”

However, Hooper believes the light punishment from the courts all the way to the NRL means that people are upset and will continue to be likely for the rest of the season.

“It was the courts first and then the NRL had to react off the back of how light the court sanction was,” Hooper said.

“But if you actually look at the incident itself that was a really bad scene and a lot of people were upset understandably.” - Source: FoxSports

Alcoholism is a disease yada yada yada but there is no more self centred and self serving type of person on the planet, unless they've done the really, really hard yards of becoming sober.

Until then they damage all around them.

I just hope the execs at Fox live up to the lofty standards they set for their workers.

Especially at Christmas time and weddings etc.

James was a damn good reporter in my opinion.

I could throw stones as I have basically been a tea totaller my entire life, and am happy to give anyone a chance.

They should tell people about this Drink Driving law instead of just springing it on unsuspecting people, like that.

Maybe, an advertising campaign?
😉😉😉
Come to think of it, I haven’t seen an anti drink driving campaign in ages. Admittedly I don’t watch much TV, but the .05 ads used to be everywhere. The graphic nature of some of those ads got a lot of exposure back in the day. Might be time for a refresher course.

Ease up. I’ve known James for 25 years and that’s not my experience.

Does he have a problem with alcohol - yes that is obvious and he’s hit rock bottom now.

Hopefully, this will be the reality check that he can’t touch alcohol ever again.
Yes, I never see the point in kicking a person when they are down. Besides, I've done my share of stupidity in this life and acting all holier than though would only confirm my own hypocrisy. Hopefully, this will be the catalyst for making a positive change in James' life.

Came across as a bit too smarmy for my liking, but at least he added a bit of interest to NRL360 particularly up against caryannis. I’ve gradually stopped watching the show because it seems less interested in honest debate and more about generating storyline’s and media click bait (like everything else I guess). Bring back Controversy Corner I say, and the passing competition.

Gave you a 'like' except for this bit... Mam didn't have a drunken crash. He had a crash, was unlicensed, and had traces of illegal drugs in his system
Sorry, I thought it was drugs and alcohol, but anyway he gave him a hard time (rightly), for being behind the wheel while impaired.

Agree that it’s easy to pile on when something like this happens without thinking of the repercussions. Having said that, he has no one to blame other than himself. I feel particularly for his wife and kids - as you pointed out. Hopefully he gets the help he needs to get back on track.
What about the 3 cars he randomly ran into.. complete DH
Causing hassle to others for his stupidity..
It's 2025 not 1975 and his in the media, he should have known better and had more respect for the general public.

Funny how workplaces differ, and not saying one way is right or wrong.

At my workplace (government) with a mainly blue collar workforce, when one of the staff goes DUI and suspended from driving they often have to work at a lower grade position which doesn't require them to drive. The alternative is to take their leave or a combination of both.

During this period they are required to attend classes and rehab programs.

A second infringement is different and may lead to dismissal, but not always. I dont think anyone has been sacked after 2 breaches.

3 strikes (convictions) is the end of the line.

There was no evidence he was impaired. He was not charged with driving under the influence of drugs. He merely had traces of illegal drugs in his system.
I've posted numerous times about the difference but probably should give up because the false narrative that Mam was driving intoxicated has become accepted at large it seems.

Very true, many can’t get sober for any length of time. I hope he can do it and will be there to support him if he needs it.
