Garrick general news thread

Kiss of death from Vossy, asking if goal kicking would be a factor after our first try, saying how Garrick had been strong on both sides this season… 😖

Fantastic winger, just not good in the centres. Just put Tommy into his natural position of centre and Reuben into his natural position on the wing and everyone's a winner.

Saab is just wasted outside Garrick. Even Morgan freakn Harper got some decent ball to Saab.

If Garrick kicks at least 2 goals of the 4 he missed we only need 1 try to win with 7 minutes to go
Agree he had an off day with the boot, though kicking is about confidence and his would have been down after the Panthers first try.

If he was playing left wing he scores and his confidence would be up, be interesting to see if his goal kicking percentage is down with the position move.

I actually reckon aside from this game his goal kicking is excellent this year. Just saw the highlights wow he missed some tackles. 🫣

I like the idea of Talau in the centres with Saab outside him, and Koula and Garrick on the other side.

Talau is a big body and showed what he can do defensively against Staggs a couple of weeks back. Sure, we might not have Garrick’s speed and swerve to put Saab away but our team is doing a lot of defending due to an ability to win the yardage battle so goal line defence is crucial. The shootout approach is not winning us games.

We don’t have time to continue this failed experiment. Enough is enough. We need to start winning otherwise it’s bottom 4 and a new coach.

I'd have to rewatch the tries, but Garrick was not at direct fault for any from memory.

The first try is already advantage To'o when he gets the ball, he scores there 9 times out of 10.

Though certainly agree his defence needs to improve.
Unfortunately Cherry (who is generally a great 1 on 1 defender but can get spooked and turn in) left Reuben stranded for 1 try.

Just can 't go along with the general pile on with Garrick as a centre ..
Not a flawless game yesterday and a better day with the boot would have got Manly pretty close in the end but still put in quite well with his overall game and far from the reason that Manly feel short Has been a bit of a toss up between him and Talau for a centre spot for a while now and with some legitimate pros and cons .
Would not be a surprise either way if he [ Garrick ] continues as a centre or swaps with Talau ongoing
Plenty of games also where Garrick ' s goal kicking has got Manly home or really contributed towards it

Of course everyone will **** on this post because everyone acts like everything’s rosy with this club but ask yourself the question. How many good games has Garrick had as opposed to how many poor games he’s had?

I’d have it at about 8-5 in favour of **** but nothing will change until the season’s over. Story of this club in recent years!
On the wing? Plenty

He's a winger..simple.. seriously can't see the logic on having him at center and Talau on the wing

I would even go as far as saying IF Turbo was too go to centre and that's a big IF
Then I would leave Hoppa at fullback Talau to wing and drop Garrick.. DCE can kick goals

We all see different things and I see exactly what the stats see
I see Ruben Garrick the Great Manly Centre of 2024
12 games
Tackle Efficiency 86.6 %
Tackle breaks 29
Line breaks 10
Tries 7
Try Assists 2

He’s in the centres because as part of his extension there’s a clause saying he gets to play in the centres it’s not rocket science

If this is true, then more fool the club for agreeing to a clause like that.

I still don't understand why blokes wouldn't want to play on the wing in today's NRL.

Wingers are a vitally important part of the modern game, and get game involvement just about every set.

The Knights chased him hard a few years ago to play fullback.

I think it’s more about the money he could earn playing fullback or possibly in the centres rather than on the wing.

Not sure what was agreed to in the contract to keep him at Manly but if he stays at centre these type of posts will continue.

This seems to be true. No coach in his right mind would continue with Garrick at centre.

What does the club do? We can’t keep crippling ourselves our season is hanging on by a thread.
