Our forwards, and 9 are terrible. Not only have we not signed anyone half decent, we've gone backwards in low quality depth that we've had (now Aloiai may be next). Yet, like every year, people expect a magical turn around in form.

We'll be one of the league's dead weights for the third year straight. 12th-16th is my guess.

Half the team are returning from long (and I mean LONG) term injury (Turbo, Garrick, Paseka, Aloiai, Lodge, Croker, Tuipulotu, Lawton) then you have players who couldn't make the grade (Schuster).

We still don't have a specialist starting 9. The one we have has 0 X-factor and running game. We are STILL looking at playing players out of position due to **** recruitment.

Is what it is. Bar is very low. I'll be happy when we can scratch a win. Haven't been able to win 50% of our games for two years straight. That will continue as top 8 teams continue to batter us.

Season ticket holders are in for yet another real treat (then again, they are taking a heap of game away - U.S. , Brisbane etc. ) - stupid.
Need to get on the love boat Ryan,
Their is a lot to like about Manly 2024, sure, a lot have been injured but most are now over it and back into full training bar Lodge. I acknowledge we aren't quite there with the top two in forward intensity, but, we have the fastest backline in the comp, if Turbo has a decent run of only one or two injuries this will be the real bonus for us. All's we can do is make the semis and from there anything can happen especially if we make top 4.

Our squad has much more depth and balance in 2024

You’re usually pretty positive, but lately seem preoccupied with ideas about ‘losers’… I hope things are ok in your world.

As for Manly, I predict a successful season, top 8 at very least.
😀

Good point, but never lose sight of the fact that every one of Manly's premierships was the culmination of several years of meticulously building a team, strengthening weaknesses, learning, and growing - and being 'losers' before finally breaking through as champions :)

Of course no-one celebrates losing very much!

But have you heard of the saying, "If you can meet with Triumph and Disaster, And treat those two impostors just the same ..."

Point being, the Manly players during those several years before (and after) they won the premiership ... lost! The very same players, are winners and losers, at different times.

As no-one has ever been perfect and even the loser wins in some way at some time, even if not a sporting competition. People are shades of grey, not black and white 'winners' and 'losers'.

Anyway you know all this stuff, as we all do. Just bear in mind it can be seen as disrespectful to call people 'losers'. Especially people such as club champions - eg Jake hasn't won a premiership, but he is as far from a loser as anyone could find! Wouldn't you agree?

SEA EAGLES

What they need
: Bubble wrap, and lots of it

Every time Tom Trbojevic goes down with injury Manly’s chances of winning the premiership seem to go with it. There are few players with as big an impact on how their team performs than Trbojevic, who has averaged just 11 games a season for the last five years. Trbojevic is a special player who has the ability to score and set up tries at will and more importantly he makes everyone around him better. He takes the pressure off Daly Cherry-Evans in the halves and can do the same for new signing Luke Brooks, who is set to play five-eighth before taking the No.7 role when DCE retires. Trbojevic looked far below his best in 2023 as he tried to learn a new running style to avoid persistent leg injuries, but he still scored 10 tries in 11 games before his season was ended by a pec injury in Origin. If Trbojevic can get back to his best and stay healthy the Sea Eagles are a genuine premiership threat, but if he goes down again you can almost write off their 2024 season

I do think it's different though now going forward with the emergence of Koula at fullback. I was actually thinking it may even be more stabilising with him at full-time fullback last season because it's much easier to replace a busted Tom in the centres given we have so many of them (Garrick, Koula, Tuipulotu, Talau, Parker) - even Matterson can play there.

Tom being out so often has helped us manage his absences better imo.

Next season, the rugby league world can't use Tom as our excuse for failing again anymore in my view.

It's finals , or bust.

It’s more so the million dollars in cap space that is on the sidelines. Sure we lose less with Koula at fullback than we have in recent years with fill ins for Turbo, but we still have a gaping hole in quality across the team as a whole when he’s out.

I'd love to see Seibold take the approach of interchanging between centre and full back. Some games completely. Others During games.

Teams work so hard at shutting Tom down at fullback. Be funny if then lined up at centre and tore his opposite a new one there. Koula and Garrick both have different strengths at fullback. Tom his own threat in attack.

Tommy's close to the best player in the world for mine. Where ever he plays teams will need to watch out.

But like Ryan I just think more of Koula at fullback could benefit the team as a whole.

When Manly isn't just Turbo. Then this whole side is a threat. Creating that as the coach is just as important as Turbo staying on the bloody field.

That we may have two centre who have spent time wearing our No 1 and a no 1 who wears a centre jersey for the blues and Australia. It's great flexibility, especially if all 3 can play both sides of the field.

I would also love to see this happen @double hoops However, I would add Garrick into that mix and allow a free interchange between the three players. Just imagine all of them being given a licence to roam between those three positions. It would be a nightmare to defend against.

We simply dont have the talent to win a comp. The management have done nothing about our talent pool for years.

I think if we make the 8 we will be over achieving.

We need to break the season down into 5 game blocks and hope and pray we win 3 out of every 5. That will get us into the 8 but its all tall order.

I will be cheering them on every week.

Oh well !…. Not everyone is positive during preseason!

Just sayin’

Maybe a bit light on in the 6 department if Brookes is sidelined for whatever time but naturally hope that he will not be .
Not sure if Arthur can provide the necessary input there to make an adequate replacement .
Shu unlikely to be moved back there unless really desperate , Latu Fainu and Weekes now out of the scene .
Difficult enough trying to field a formidable enough 13 without additional problems in the 6 role again .
Not to add some sense of negativity , just a bit of realism .
Some reference previously that Paulo [which seems a bit surprising for a rangy outside back primarily ] has played a bit of 6 and Matterson has not gone too bad there at Blacktown .
Hopefully again will not emerge as a problem area
