Yeah? Can you name few
We live in a free country SER8. We live in a country where we can make fun of politicians. Just about every day you see depictions of this across all walks of life including footy players.
Here is a acceptable depiction of politicians in Australia for public consumption.. My case rests.

... where we can just totally make **** up? ( if it helps to defend someone calling Jacinda Ardern a monster.)
Not sure why you mean mate. I think you should let this go hey! There is plenty of evidence.
A NRLW player recently made fun of the Queens death on social media and pundits on the left defended this… I do not recall reading any posts from you condemning this behaviour? Is your concern only partisan?

I am not anti-free speech at all. You’re looking at this upside down. Probably because you’re not seeing a historical context, you’re acting like there’s some universal, eternal (dare I say god-given) rights here. Which is BS.

Specifically, you left out 5 key words here – "First thing they did after they got in power was curtail and end ... Freedom of speech”.

How did they ever get in power? They got in power by being able to freely spread their various false messages of blame, division and fear with too few people standing up to call out those messages for what they were.

Yet here on ST – whenever someone calls out something as racist, or xenophobic, misogynist, or homophobic etc etc – a couple here try to shout them down with ridicule and insult. Ring a bell? You are going out of your way to shut down that criticism and block attempts to expose the harm of those BS ideologies. So you are assisting them. All in the name of your sacred (but unfortunately fictitious) right to free speech.
They were pretty much all the result of previous wars .
Pol pot a current war.

Aw diddums? Why not pop over to Soapbox and we can have a Socratic dialogue about free speech? I'll even let you be Socrates

Why not just admit you can't think of any examples and you just made it up because you want people to think what Josh did was totally normal and OK?
I am not making stuff up. If you honestly think footy players don’t bag out politicians like many others in our free country then you are more naive then I thought.. If you are so seriously worried about Josh’s petty antics you seriously need to get a life mate…. It’s a no news story…..

The purpose of dialogue is to invoke logos. I think the tank may be empty with my debating partner.

Hey from your posts I can really tell that i am getting under your skin…:).

By the way that female player got banned for her comment. Whch hardly supports your using her example to say its fine and players do this all the time.

I'm not worried about Josh's antics I'm far more concerned about your behaviour and your constant efforts to normalise harmful ideologies .
Well I guess you have the right to your opinion. I suspect most ST members are smart enough to think for themselves and will only take comments from people like the both of us with a pinch of salt. No need to worry about your flock Pastor Rocks! Pretty hip name hey? The flock can think for itself… we are just bouncing around our opinions… it’s ok, honestly:)
It seems you and Josh have something in common just very different churches

That's right, Socrates, words only express ideas, and ideas can never harm anyone. Can they?
It is an interesting debate Pastor Rocks! It’s an age old question. Do we allow people to think for themselves and take responsibility or do we do thinking for them and protect them because we know better.? Suggest you make the thread if you seriously want to discuss… but I doubt it…

The last 2 discussion topics I’ve started you have leapt in with the 1st reply: “Dribble” (Politics in sport thread) and “Self indulgent tripe” (censorship thread).

So no thanks. You can start one next time

All that sounded good ... until you think about it .... and then it just resembles well crafted nonsense

Your assertion that Hitler rose to power due to freedom of speech is ridiculous ... don't you think that the crippling conditions of the Versace treaty, and the resultant social and economic conditions, simply made his message more attractive to a disgruntled populace? That his message fell on furtile ears?

And the existence of freedom of speech doesn't automatically guarantee that the forces of good are smart enough, or powerful enough to fight evil.

But, as your heros in the politburo know ... without freedom of speech .... they have no chance ..

PSS ... I believe the Ayatolla Khomeni was also an enthusiastic destroyer of Freedom of speech ... who else is on your side .. Oh, I know, the Taliban, they also love your stuff.

First they came for the socialists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a socialist.

Then they came for the trade unionists, and I did not speak out—because I was not a trade unionist.

Then they came for the Jews, and I did not speak out—because I was not a Jew.

Then they came for me—and there was no one left to speak for me.

I'm think I am going to be baffled by your interpretation of this ... please educate me ..

This is what history 100% teaches. The people’s plight made them more susceptible.. add to this the Great Depression. Italy also had Mussolini and his blackshirts…. there was also not a very well documented plot to install a dictator type leader in the US in the 1930’s again the impacts of the depression… where hitler was successful was doing exactly what SER8 is proposing ( he shut down over time opposing voices, ( noting a very different methodology of course ) but he started doing this well before he obtained any significant power… suppressing peoples voices is a completely insane so called solution… SER8 needs to move to China 🇨🇳…..we can rename him beijing eagle…..
