Kane Elgey -->Manly√

So how did Hastings free up a spot then? Does a player have to take up a spot in another teams roster to free up the one he was taking?
System changing next year
"It's understood a key change to the model is likely to make clubs more receptive to publishing full squad lists in 2019, with players who are still included in a club's salary cap but no longer playing there no longer occupying a roster spot from next season."

I can't see how this reply addresses my post you quoted mate? How was Hastings' top 30 spot freed up to allow Fainu's upgrading if paying a player out doesn't free it up?

Good signing. We have depth in Cust, Metcalfe and Wright but Metcalfe is seen as a future replacement for DCE and Cust is of a similar mould. It's Wright who I'd be worried about as both centre and 5/8 will have been shored up. Having said that, if Elgey fails then Wright or Walker would be ready made back ups.

At least he has knee’s, two of them in fact!!

And he's only 24. His best years are potentially ahead of him. I recall Canterbury letting go a 22 year old (not that much younger) they didn't seem to have much interest in, and the kid moved to North Queensland. His name was Thurston. Not suggesting Elgey will reach such heights, but he will improve on what has gone before. He has had one season ending injury in '16 and he has some defensive issues. It was thought he had lost confidence and lost an interest in the game. Hopefully a new club will inspire the kid, just as it did Thruston.
