Mainly ain't Manly anymore

Im confused by the Perth Teddy Bears. They had all this money, big time backers financially, yet the NRL are making all the decisions and running the show..... Who actually owns the Bears in Perth??
The NRL do .....

The huge concern would be if Manly were to be defunct again and this time all the catchment area of talent will belong to the Perth Bears, since Rugby League is seldom played in WA anyway. Unfortunately it makes better commercial sense for the NRL.
My prediction would be that Penn eventually withdraws his investment from the club if he cant find a buyer and that would be the end of the Sea Eagles for good.
I don't think so, we're dragging in sellout crowds to every home game now. Don't think it will be to hard to attract another owner or owners.

I blame Bozo Fulton for our demise. He was brought in and sacked half of the team which killed the Manly Culture and he and Penn also had Toovey sacked and brought in a totally inexperienced and clueless new coach by the name of Trent Barrett who has since proven that he is a complete failure as an NRL coach.
To me, our owners are also a main cause of our demise because to them, it appears that we are nothing but a play thing that they own, something that they can big-note themselves and say to others, "look at me, look at me, I own an NRL Club" to make themselves feel superior to someone else. To me, it appears that they couldn't give a damn if we win or lose. They only seem to want to put in the bare minimum of funds and nothing more to improve our position.
If Arthurson had a crystal ball back in late 1968, he may never have recruited Peter Peters.

Peters=Penn family=clueless flogs on the football club front=Peters=destabilising the club on and off for decades=Peters=recruit my mate Bozo to ‘rescue’ the joint=what a total shatshow=thanks for nothing Zorba and Bob.

Fulton was part of the problem.
Yep

Talk to the older guys that played with him or knew him well
Every year I attend the old boys / fans function on the Gold Coast at Yacht Club then Burleigh Bears. A lot of them now call GC home.Quite a few legends and first graders/ lower grades.

Great days with a consistent theme. The almost universal dislike of the great Bozo as a human being as opposed to footballer and coach.

The Fatty Vautin / Bozo hatred was the best publicized. There are plenty of others.

The club is doomed? You are kidding right?

On the park we may go all the way to being also rans (i can not see a world where we win a comp this decade so that little piece of history will be gone and, considering our squad, I could see one where we finish last) but the club will never fold especially as the NRL would not let a club fold

I think peter V made our club safe and the ceo of the comp rather than ourselves may decide. Before PV the NRL talk was too many sydney teams

Tv still wants to run the game

When they are expanding the comp to get more tv games it is highly unlikely they would cut a team

In the short term. The more successful the comp, the more cashed up options like logan, ipswich, another kiwi team, will be looking to join .

Teams still have to agree to T and C to renew licences every 5 years i think . Its not guaranteed

The new teams like perth and PNG show how much financial clout they have and how little we have

In time all franchises will be reviewed on what they bring to the collective pie.

Greenberg also touted expansion but also wanted to cut clubs that drag the corporate pie down.

I for one am thankful for PV and his attitude toward history but to think we are guaranteed 10 or 15 down the track is still hopeful . Apart from Penn our corporate ability or only source of income is hand outs from the NRL and a bit of sponsership and they can hand that to anyone

The club is not insolvent and would have to be very badly managed to be

What ever you think of the Penn family it is clear they are successful business people so the chance of us ever going bankrupt or similar is minimal. Also I believe they have a clear sense of what they need to invest to make their return of value and will not invest more than that - that includes a some what competitive team however it will not be at the level to get us to the top

Its not about the penns, manly .

Its the NRL and how fickle our leaders are and have been. Surely you can remember how we were always under threat under moffatt, greenberg.

Last ceo wanted less sydney teams and 3 major stadiums. PV killed it

You get we have to apply and agree to the franchise rules which will change as more wealthy clubs become the norm. Nobody wants 14 teams with 50 mill organisations and 6 operating on 20 . They drag it down and slow growth . We afe getting more teams for growth and no other reason

Economics rule until you get a rare gem that is PV

We were under pressure with greenberg but appear safe under PV

Our finances havnt improved dramatically , the NRL’s have.

The NRL is experiencing serious growth , ours is moderate

If you think we are still locked in forever then nothing i can say, or greenberg for that would convince you

Im not saying we are in trouble but if i was paying attention we have had more years under pressure than safe

While he has been bagged heaps on this site, I think Manly really missed Burbo on the left edge on Friday. Burbo is really improving quite quickly this year and demonstrating a lot more aggression. He’s not a star yet, however, he is improving in leaps and bounds.

We have also really missed Paseka. At the moment, Bullemor is our best performing prop, while the others, except for Taukeiaho,
look like ‘plodders’ compared to the top teams. We lack the speed and were shown up so badly against Parra.

Brown, Lodge, Toff, Waddel and Aloiai just don’t seem to add anything to the team.

Mind you, this 2025 comp is so close, I have no idea who will make the final four places in the Top 8 (5,6,7 and 8). I think the Top 4 are basically assured at the moment, unless injuries curtail their season.

Penrith running last at the moment, could well do a Steven Bradbury after Origin is over. I don’t see them topping the ladder, however, they could cause another miracle. They just have too much class and will come out of their slump.

I agree with your two key takeaways @Isz : I really cannot see Manly winning the premiership this decade, and I really can see a possibility of us coming stone last. A dismal prospect indeed.
