Manly v Penrith Round 20, 2018 - Pre Game

...Do you think Ponga suffered because he was brought up to first grade in North Queensland and played at best average games. If you don't blood them, they cant know what is expected of them....
Ponga is hardly a good example, the kid is a freak.
And I agree with blooding a youngster when our season is gone anyway (aside from the small matter of needing to win to avoid the spoon).
I was more thinking of those who have been calling loudly for the selection of untried youngsters for the past couple of months. Not to ‘blood' them, but to improve the team.

I'm expecting a big effort this week. If we play with the enthusiasm that we did against Melbourne then I think we have a 50:50 chance of a win. I'm turning up again, even though the bruises and blushes from the last performance are still visible.
I like Walker at 5/8; we have played well when he's in that position.
I also like the interviews with Joel and Jake. Both players can be excused from the shambles against Easts but both were embarrassed and, as our forward leaders, they will crucify any slackers in the team. I do worry about the poor defence of Suli. He will be targeted, so I hope he is up to the task this week, even though I feel he hasn't a future in the backline.

I’m warming to a better performance, maybe I’m delusional ( I was last week too).

I just have a feeling the addition of Dylan and Jorge AND the rumblings from Jake / Joel “ might” see a different attitude.

I’m not saying it’s a win , but I’m sure it will be a better game.

Look, i can feel you. I initially picked a 44-18 scoreline to the Panthers, but am sensing something special atleast. I have revised my prediction -

Panthers 34- Manly -22

I don’t think it will be a flogging , but nor do I think we’ll flog them.

Your scoreline might be close to the mark!

For me it just comes down to home grounds. I just can't see us putting in another shocker at home (hope). If it was played in the riff, I'd have them to win.

Is this the first time Funa has been named in the squad ?? I can't remember if he has been named in the 21 previously or not.

Maybe he is closer to getting a run, which wouldn't be the worst thing in the world. Apart from avoiding the spoon there is little else left in this season apart from maybe giving a few guys some NRL experience. Sipley and Paseka getting some game time, Fainu has had his go, as has TGWH - Tevita is the last of the 30 man squad to get used. Why not give him a crack instead of Spiderman Parker ?? Let's see how he goes on the wing, give him a taste of the big show. Horhay can play either side so he can run with Suli and put Funa with Kell and Thommo.
Be careful what you say about Parker C&C, he’s considered to be somewhat of a koala bear on here by some... and referring to him as Spider-Man might be misconstrued as very un-Manly like.

Brad Parker"s utility value should make him still a definite asset for Manly going forward and he was in the frame occasionally as a bench player last season to cover the back row. Good natural footballer who certainly does not hesitate to have a go , has shown a couple of defensive lapses but has a knack to be able to break tackles and even find the try line when given a decent opportunity . Probably will never be a top liner but still offers enough to justify his place as things now are , maybe not necessarily in the run on side but certainly in the top squad somewhere . Have to give Hodko a bit of a wrap for his effort last week , not a good enough player to turn the game Manly "s way but did some quite useful things while he was on the field .

Haha yeah, that's what I was thinking last week.

Now I tell you how we’ll know who is going to win!!

@Ned have you picked Manly or Penrith in the tipping Comp??

Considering you get an almost perfect score each week you are the one person on here that will know!!!

Play with heart passion and desir for the jersey , club and supporters
Sadly been at the last 5 home defeats and nothing really installs me with confidence about tomorrow.
We will try hard but panthers have way more on the line 12-12 half time
Full time 28-16 panthers

FINALLY coach has picked the right bloody football team. Out with the kids and in goes experience.

I actually feel Manly will give this team a shake, and nothing would please me more than to beat down the very club that is trying to infiltrate us, not to mention a nice little win to avoid the spoon.

GO MANLY!!
