I have no idea what to expect this arvo. Usually by now I have a clear idea of how Manly will win (obviously that is often incorrect!) but this time I just can't make any guess.

Anyow - if the Manly players rip in there's no reason they can't win!
So, Go Manly!
For Manly to win, in particular,
Turbo needs to be more influential than Kennedy, and more importantly, Chez than Hynes.
Also, Tuilagi cannot let Nikora get on his outside, otherwise it will be a try fest down that side.
Sharks have lost a fair bit of grunt, but have speed and mobility across the park. We need to keep things in the middle, and most importantly, we cannot give Hynes an inch.

Okay, game day. I'm feeling reasonably positive about today. Last week was a sense of predictable dread about "Stupid Round", but this week's different. We're at Brookie. I'm feeling a big game from Chez, with all our players lifting.
Hope I'm right. If not, we tell ourselves, it's only a game of footy.
Hug your Mamas.

I've been trying to come up with a reason to expect a good result this afternoon but have come up short so far. The fact we have the same 17 as last week is definitely not it. I think the Sharks are a better team than us - better coaching, better players - and that'll be that. But it's rugby league and anything can happen. So my one hope is… there's always hope? Anyway, go Manly!
Maybe Sharks playing better consistently as a team rather then having a better side but get your line of thinking . Just have to get out of the syndrome of playing or being quite competitive in patches,. Surely [ and even with a couple of key players out ] are not any less a capable footy side then say the Raiders who have managed to turn things around in a major way for some time now . Maybe just a mental and coaching issue with structures and concentration. Season not done with another below par effort and loss today but close to it . Hoping that they can find a way to win somehow , at least there is still that not unreasonable expectation .

Raiders were running up in defence quickly in one line last night.
They did it after 5 minutes and they were still doing it after 75 mins.

This wins footy matches. Can Manly do this more than once every 5 weeks?

Despite Jake and Schu being out there’s plenty in our favor today. We knock a hole in their middle and Tom comes out at 100%, we’ll get home.

Hope the crowd pitches in and they hold the ball for the first ten minutes without getting carried away. But as far as a style of play the team hasn't had a chance to form one yet.

I think they'll just grab another ball if the crowd is going to hang onto it 😉

The one thing that might be positive is that with Koula and Parker back for a second week, and Garrick back on the wing a second week we might have some more shape in the backline.

Hopefully DCE can be supported by the players around him in defence so he can concentrate on attack.

I hope the forwards feel they are on notice as well, as we need a real lift from them.

Mothers' Day, Reub's 100th, Golden Eagles Day, the weather's clear (hopefully), in front of a big Brookie crowd and a passionate Jake barking at them in the sheds. If all that doesn't inspire them, I don't know what will!

Hope Aloiai makes up for last week, they cut out their errors, are disciplined and Woods, Keppie, Paseka and co can cover for Jake and Sips' absence. Looking forward to DCE vs Nicho.

A Battle of the Beaches win for us would be a superb Mothers' Day present. I'm pumped and off to Brookie...Go Manly!!!

Good reminder ... Happy Mother's Day to you and to all the other Mothers on here ... have a great day ..

I started the day like @davohan123 and many others, not really thinking we can put in a good performance let alone jag a win.

BUT I tells ya, the closer we get to game time the more optimistic I am for a win, That Sea Eagle blood cursing through my veins, my heart pumping, my head spinning and those familiar little eagles flying round in my stomach.....

CMON YOU GOOD THINGS SHOWS US WHAT UPU GOT !

GO MANLY

of course it could be the 4 pines talking
Happy Mothers day Mum
Love ya dearly

I'm feeling quietly confident. Not sure why.

Maybe seeing how Reuben spoke about the match at his jersey presentation helped?

Tom Trbojevic knows it would be special if Nicho Hynes was still playing alongside him at Manly.

Hands up if you remember seeing a young Hynes leaping into the arms of Trbojevic after he had just kicked the winning field goal to send the Sea Eagles to the 2015 Holden Cup grand final.

Their coach at the time, David Heath, brought Hynes on during a break in play because he was the most capable of slotting a one-pointer under pressure.

Trbojevic said he has known the Cronulla star for more than a decade, and that they played in the same Sydney North representative teams in primary school, plus the same NSW Primary Schools Sports Association team that travelled to Darwin for the national championships in 2008.

The man nicknamed “Turbo” certainly remembered the night Hynes jumped into his arms after Manly sealed a Holden Cup preliminary final boilover against the Cowboys.

“Penrith and the Cowboys were the two best teams all year, and we weren’t meant to win that day,” Trbojevic said. “Nicho kicked the winning field goal.

“He was always a good ball player who had a lot of time. Even now he looks like a player with a lot of time. He reads the defences well, has a lot of different passing options and is always making the right decision. The way he is playing right now is incredible.

“I do remember that photo of us. It would have been cool to still play with him here at Manly. But I don’t really daydream about those sort of things.

“He’s just a quality player, and a really great guy who was always good value. I’m glad he’s going so well.”

Heath, now coach of Hills District in the Ron Massey Cup, said he had enjoyed watching Hynes’ rapid rise, and his work ethic and temperament meant first-grade success was inevitable, if belated.

“His personality and the way he carries himself now is no surprise to me,” Heath said. “He’s always been a good young man. There was no rubbish in him at all. He was a central figure and always got along with everyone.”

Hynes said his football would improve further because of the relief he felt after walking out of the Downing Centre court on Tuesday with his mother, Julie, who had been released from prison.

Julie, who was found guilty of supplying heroin in February, will serve a two-year intensive corrections order at Hynes’ home, rather than behind bars, which means the Sharks playmaker no longer has to “worry about answering mum’s calls, or having the stress of missing her sometimes because I’ve been training all day, and not knowing when I will talk to her again”.

Trbojevic and Hynes, the two Dally M Medal winners from the past two seasons – and the two biggest drawcards at 4 Pines Park on Mother’s Day – will try to inspire wins for their respective teams, while also ramming home their NSW Origin credentials.

Trbojevic has been criticised for his form in recent weeks, but coach Anthony Seibold reminded people his numbers were still excellent, and it was unrealistic to expect him to reproduce the phenomenal performances that led him to the Dally M Medal in 2021.
