No wonder they are called the Rorters

Just been thinking about Easts, and it is so obvious that they are cheating the cap that it is not just illegal, it is laughable.

1. Easts, virtually, have no juniors so they don’t have the luxury of clubs that cultivate juniors who grow up passionate about playing for their club and will accept a lesser salary in order to fulfil a dream. Easts have to pay overs for their players.

2. The Eastern Suburbs is the most expensive area in Australia in which to live so players will need higher salaries to live locally, or spend time and money commuting from cheaper outlying areas.

3. I’ve read that Easts have 16 internationals in their squad. Now, you would expect that each would be on a minimum of $500,000 a season, with guys like Cronk, Cordner, Mitchell and Tedesco closer to $1-M. That adds up to the total salary cap. What about the other 14 players in the 30-man squad?

4. Easts seem to be the only club that can win a premiership and still strengthen their roster for the following season. I give you: Ryan Hall, Morris and Crichton as replacements in 2019 for Ferguson and Napa.

When you look at their roster -- particularly their backline – there is no club remotely close to them in ability. It is so obvious that Easts are rorting the so-called ‘level playing field’ that it has to be being condoned by the NRL.

No doubt there is some seedy dealings - I get ppl comparing Manly in the early days buying up the best players available - key difference was - there was NO Salary cap back then !!
Also the star studded side Manly had up till 2013/14, but that was torn apart due to back ended contracts.....which does not seem needed at Roosters, who in fact are still linked to million dollar players on top of the roster they have today !!

And they are starting to call themselves the Sydney Roosters.

Sydney Sea Eagles anyone?

Interesting .... If Toddy doesn't tell them to cease that immediately given that Sydney is home to 8 "Sydney" teams then he really is the corrupt sack of shiite we all believe he is ...

the following comment is not aimed at you ... but ..

Fuk Sydney .. what has Sydney ever done for us .... plus it is on the other side of the spit bridge .....

I am related to a retired state and international player of theirs and he use to think it was funny that his salary was reported at $X in the media. They overestimated it by about 20% but his mother in law had a job with someone close to the club that she would show up for roughly an hour a month. She was paid very well for this and would look after her daughter by giving her 90% of the money to assist her and her footballing husband. Her wage was double mine and I was working fulltime.

No idea if this still goes on but how would the NRL police it plus you can be certain most clubs would have been doing the same thing, just some clubs have more mates at the big end of town who can assist more.

Loads of ways to Rort the system and I’d reckon they’d know every one of them!’

Back in the day before computerised pokies ...... the chosen few would be paid in bags of coins from the machines ..... (remember a pint of brew was 20c and a bag of hot chips from the wharf 10c .. so a full bank bag of 20c's a week was a fair haul) .. but this was more of a tax-free situation and not a salary cap rort ......

Too simplistic of a view.

All it takes is one team to cheat the cap to cause an inflationary affect that ripples down to all teams.

Go back in recent times(over the last decade or so) and you will see a few clubs have high amounts of internationals and representatives, along with clubs at the bottom half of the table with less internationals over the cap.

Get rid of the cap and let clubs go broke(or do their jobs and stay viable for once) to speed up the process of expansion and reduced teams.

It's basically a catch 22 situation, just as it was for us in the 70's 80's and 90's when there was no salary cap as such, players will always gravitate to the club that they feel they will have more success at, and probably for a reduced contract as well, at present the Rooters are perceived as a successful and are therefore able to attract certain players that other clubs are not able to do so for the same money.
It's a cyclical thing, during the early 80,s to mid 90's the Rooters were also a club that found it hard to attract the right type of player, once they contracted Fittler and Gould as coach, they were able to attract players who were seeking success and not just the cash.

Slyly run club . Go through their top 30 roster and tell me how they get away with it . More so , they don't even get looked at .
How do they get away with it . They are too smart for both of us to comprehend . If you are saying they corrupt just prove it .
