Copa Eagle

Reserve Grader
This may be a topic that is spoken of reguraly, but there still has been no hint of manly being active with player negotiations, Luke Douglas would have been a perfect buy. What annoys me is the talk of retaining Kite. Get rid of him. We will also have to pay a fortune for Hoppa yet theres no definate conclusion as to weather he will play 1st grade, if he does wolfman or robbo will have to go (id love to see hoppa playing every week), if i were Manly things would be done now, and players told where they stand and weather they need to pick it up or ship them out.

This is a whinge but i find it valid. Surely we can atleast show some activity within the market ?

To be fair, until they get all the internal contracts sorted, they can't really do anything for the rest of them

The paper indicated this morning that we were one of the teams chasing Snowden.

Would rather we re-sign Bhurer, Hoppa etc first then chase a prop.

Snowden is a backrower isn't he. Not sure we need a backrower and more need a prop.

Douglas would have been handy but I don't see him as being that outstanding.

I am really of the opinion we should let the young fellas have a dig

I'd say it would be safe to say that they would be offering Snowden deals in a range which still left us enough space to fit in upgrades for the younger players. The club hasn't gotten to where they are by making rash decisions & generally acting like Parramatta.

Interesting to see that we are after a big name like Snowden though. Would seem to indicate that we will be losing quite a few players who are approaching the ends of their contracts.

No Snowden is most definitely a prop and a very good one at that. Douglas would have been great. If I'm a NSW selector I have both of them in my team to face QLD.

I've said it before but I think Russell Packer is someone we should be chasing. I don't think he's off contract this year but there are plenty of stories of trouble in the camp in NZ and if he could be persuaded I'd take him in a heartbeat.

That being said, priority no 1 must be young Hoppa.

Why would the Warriors release him? Not saying that I wouldn't want him, it just seems unlikely that we will even get a crack at him unless the Warriors decide to pay him out.

Packer is considered a future skipper over here

The bloke I would love us to get is Mose Masoe. A huge unit, aggro and wouldn't cost a big amount

I've heard of the rumours of unrest in the camp and Packer has already been dropped a few times this year got me thinking that the coaching staff aren't overly happy with him and if they aren't happy with him, then maybe he's not happy with them.

I agree it would be foolish for them to release him but he wouldn't be the first kiwi that's wanted to escape the Warriors when the playing group falls out with the coach.

Where have these rumours been coming from ? Hasn't been much around over here, other than that Cleary and Inu had some sort of disagreement before round 1

I doubt you will be any of them jump ship with Brain McLennan sitting there waiting for the coaches job, he is like a god over here coaching wise

Given Hull KR's current predicament(need to free up a spot in their import spots to keep Willie) maybe approach them and take Joel Clinton of there hands.
Could get him on the cheap if we could arrange that the Robbin's pay most of his wage.

I'll say it again, Brad Meyers, the giant red headed, bearded bloke at the Gold Coast is off contract at the end of this season.

Now that GC have bought Idris and Douglas, they may struggle to keep him. IMO he would be an excellent buy, with a marketable persona as good as the Wolfmans.

Seen it reported in the press over here a few times. I've heard it on the radio a few times (heard Bozo say it). You mentioned McLennan is waiting in the wings and Cleary is definitely a coach under pressure. That sort of thing can result in an unhappy playing group. Sometimes players leave before the coach goes, look at Mateo and Inu.

When Joel Clinton burst onto the scene he was simply dynamic. Then there was the SBW hit and it was like the aura had disappeared. I don't think he was ever the same again and he was utterly disappointing at the Broncos.

I agree that we have some issues with our Props but I don't necessarily think that spending money on someone new is the best way to go.

King, Kite, Rose and Mauro are the current rotation, with Robinson, Cross, Cunningham, Palau and Moujali as back up.

In my view, King is in the best form of his Career. He's not making as many of those dumb errors that used to give away penalties and he looks to be trying to impose himself on the game with strong defense. Unfortunately Kite hasn't been able to regain the good form he had 2-3 yrs ago and really shouldn't be in the side anymore. It's only Des's loyalty that is keeping him there.

Rose is looking better & better with each game and with him it's all about his fitness. He's got the ability to be as good as any prop in the game, it's just his conditioning that holds him back. Mauro is a solid performer and the type of player that Des likes to have in the 17. Like Bryant, Hall & Williamson before him, however I'd like to see him develop a different skill set, something that sets him apart from the others. Of the other 3 guys I mentioned, the only one to do that was Hall. He developed a very strong running game that that made him hard to stop anywhere in the field, particularly close to the tryline where he became a specialist at bulldozing his way over the line. I'd like to see Mauro become a real hitter in defense similar to David Gillespe whose smaller size enabled him to get up into the ribs of the opposition players.

Robinson has impressed in the few opportunities he's had and I'm keen to see Cunningham, Moujali and Palau get a chance. As for Cross, I've never had that bad of an opinion of him and I'd like to see him get another shot. Des seems to have made up his mind though and I can see him being released when his contract is up.

So..... overall, I think we're quite well served for props and even though Snowden would be great, the $300,000 - $400,000 he would cost should be used to lock up Hoppa, Foran and Oldfield.

Kite > Meyers

Agree with that. Kite wasn't that good against the Sharks or Rabbits but he was outstanding last week and has been doing a job in the rest of the games this year. I'm not suggesting he's got plenty of years left in him but he's definitely a better option than Meyers.

When Joel was at the Broncos he had no other forward to help him to roll up the field but going on this years form could be a different story
