IMO I would LOVE to see what Josh Hannay or Matt King would do as head coaches here. Worth noting that Des flagged Hannay as his successor here.
The issue is that these two would likely want to reset the club. Penn would not allow it. "Results driven business". You need to win all the time, every time, or else you're gone.
I do think there are good future head coaches out there, unlike some here. I just don't think that Penn has the brains to select them. He's an absolute clown. Realistically, I'd love to get a Hannay, but I'm not getting a Hannay. I'm getting (this is factual, unlike Spoonbold) Spoonthur.
This is based upon the literal fact that we did this exact thing in 2022. We snubbed Hannay for Seibold.
I just don't think Penn has the appetite or patience to sit through a rebuilding period. Think about it, when's the last time we had a non-mandated rebuild? 2016 and beyond was necessary due to retirements. The answer is 2004, where Des went through some absolutely nightmare performances, before it eventually became good.
A question I often think is this; if Penn was in charge (or at least, with the power he has now) in 2005, would he have sacked Des?
I think he would've.
That answer basically reinforces my opinion. It isn't Seibold vs Great new coach who will bring us a prem. It's Seibold vs BA, who will sign a retiring RCG for us.
Hence, we're stuck in some eternal mediocrity, because no one wants to take risks within the club. It is needed... But if Seibs is sacked, we'll get someone average and past their expiry date, like BA, not change the roster, have an outdated vision, and go through this whole process again.
