Distract from what? Can you think of a solitary expert who tipped Manly to make the finals?
Pretty much everyone here did, of course, but ... if we'd known Turbo and Schu wouldn't fire or even play many games, probably even most of us wouldn't have been confident.
What's that got to do with the price of fish?

You really think its a coincidence that Mestrov publicly having a go at Schuster, and Seibold timing his whinge, occur the same week Manly gets bowled out, finishing further down the ladder than last year?

Are you suggesting a conspiracy with 2 parts, Seibold complaining about the terrible ref calls and Mestrov commenting on Schu's poor form ... both aimed at distracting Penn from noticing that Manly didn't make the finals?
Yeah, Ok, I wonder if it will work @:D

Yeah, Ok, I wonder if it will work @:D

It has certainly stopped the media talking talking Seibold failing to take Manly to the semis and his position being in doubt.
Tick - Seibold/Mestrov plan to change the narrative has worked - at this point anyway.

A conspiracy? Seriously? A tad dramatic mate? No, this is human nature.

This isn't about distracting Penn.

This is about getting the media and public from shining a spotlight on the club's horrible 2023 performance. I really don't see what's so controversial about this particular point

Isn't it obvious for all to see?

Do you really think "the media and public" consider Manly's season has been a horrible fail? That implies the media and public expected far better from us this year... I'm not sure that is actually true!

Lol, no-one in the media expected Manly to make the semis this year. Or do you think the media was about to hold a massive inquest into the extraordinary mystery of how this star Manly side fell so far below expectations? Eh, probably not!

Let's just agree to disagree mate. Really couldn't be bothered doing this dance with you bud
Go Manly

We might not disagree completely, it's more that the most obviously 'horrible' part I see is the failure of the 2023 halves plan. This halves plan of course was put in place before Seibold's time, and to his credit he saw the risk and added Johns, and then Arthur, as back-ups.

However, the timing of the decision to extend Schu's deal, on big money and for a few more years, right now looks like a major gamble, if not a potential disaster. Mestrov and Seibold are responsible for this, surely.

As far as the rest of our squad goes, I'd say they've gone roughly as expected.

And yep, anyway Go Manly (and go Schu in 2024)

I think most “good judges” could see we were at long odds without the FB and constant injuries. I think Brandy and a few others at times have actually praised the side considering these shortcomings.

If we don't improve next season, the drums will start beating for Siebs exit.

Siebs needs to:

1. Sack any staff with one foot out the door (including players).
2. Get those rah rah strength and conditioning guys in stat. Our entire team needs to shed many, many off season kilos. If what I've heard is true, they need to all heavily cut down on the grog.
3. The mindset / culture need to change. Start thinking like winners. Our fans do too. People even in this thread have stated, who thought we were going to make the semis anyways, so what's the big deal - that's a losers mindset, and disrespectful to our club.
4. Assistant coach is important. Think Holbrook, and go UP from there. Not the Blake mercenary Greens. He'd inspire everyone around him to jump ship - it's what he did. Constantly.
5. Flanagan has been speaking to certain players (white anting us) I've been told. Wash them out and don't make it a long process. Not just Schuster, who I hope stays. That'll lead to a **** culture.
6. Bring in an independent sporting director like Ben Ikin. No, not Tooves or anyone like him - "Ikin" to oversee the roster and cull the dud Moses players who almost sunk even The Broncos.
7. Do NOT procrastinate on decisions. Flanagan should have been gone months ago, and it's lead to apathy throughout the group. Don't dordle and linger, make the changes immediately.
8. Our entire recruitment policy (slow, ageing, plonking forwards, no hooker, constantly releasing youth etc) needs a complete overhaul. I'm hoping point 6 would correct this. We need a few Martin's, a few Carrigans. I see absolutely no quality juniors coming through that could make an impact within 24 months.

Etc etc etc

I haven't heard anyone here say, "What's the big deal?" Everyone here wants Manly to win.

But thank you for telling me I've a loser mindset and I'm guilty of disrespecting the club, simply because I knew that Manly was $2.40 outsiders to make the Top 8 (and yes I put a few bucks on them, proving what a loser I am, no doubt)

I wish I could develop the preferred winners mindset, and pay proper respect to our club by constantly calling our players "pea-hearts' in public, and accusing them of apathy throughout the group.

Out of curiosity, and to possibly help me correct my insulting disrespectful mindset, can you point to any specific evidence supporting this rather damning assertion of 'apathy throughout the group'? If there is such evidence I'd like to know about it, certainly before I waste any more of my hard-earned backing our players and club.

Thanks in advance!

Proof: 4 wins in our last 15 games.

Secondly, for people to say they never expected us to win a game, or never expected us to make the 8, I'm calling BS on that one, because no matter WHAT people say, there is always, and I mean ALWAYS "hope", otherwise what's the point?

Now, I'm pretty sure the majority believed we'd improve this season (new coach, new facilities, new players, new staff). Most had us scraping into the finals.

And I'm not calling anyone a "loser". I'm saying a defeatist attitude is a losing mindset. A losing mindset can be changed. I think it's disappointing people automatically suggest we are going to lose or not make the 8. Maybe it's a coping mechanism?

I on the other hand, while being overtly negative, go into any and every game (including say The Panthers) hoping for, and believing there is a chance to win - and yup, I get bitterly disappointed when we lose. To hear following that, "well, we were never going to succeed" that to me screams of a losing mindset, and an excuse, don't you?

If you were a professional athlete, what type of fans would you want? One's that think you could win any game you apply yourself to, or ones that gave you no hope, so shouldn't be disappointed? For me, that's about respect for the player and club.....don't you ?

And it's that second lot, that are crying foul of the first lot who vent, yell, scream after games because they are so angry, frustrated and disappointed. I mean, how DARE people get affected by the result right? We were never going to make the 8 or win certain games according to some.

I'm also not sure why you took my post personally? Who said it related to you? It could have been about anybody.

But, keep backing the players and team monetarily if you want to. That IS respect for the players and team. Bet against them if you think it's a certain loss. That's your perspective. But jeez, I hope you aren't looking at next season like this one, assuming we won't make the 8, so we shouldn't be disappointed if we don't, because I for one, demand, expect, hope, trust (all the different types of emotions) that we will and do.

Cheers.

Garrick will line up the straw and eat out of it before it's a penalty. I'm sick of fans bagging JCroker and wanting to replace him. Don't u see what he does week in week out, all his team mates does that's Y he won the Manly players of the year last year. If U stand next to him his small bout Toves height but always the first 1 in the takle. Rather have him than reed mahoney who gets $$$$ 3 times more than him. Also I think we've a good team, but should hav got rid of tuilagi and aloiai and kept Fafita and the fainu brothers for the future. Instead of brook younger fainu can play with DCE for a few years and learn. With the money left over from that we can buy a good center.

Good to see Seib going off but not hard enough. Get rid of JShuster and we'll win more games.

Maybe it's just me, but I don't think anyone actually bags Croker mate. We all think he gives his all, has the heart of a lion, tackles like a man possessed.

I think in the modern game though, where ruck speed is SO important, explosive distribution, x-factor from dummy half (including a running game) , a kicking game, speed and finesse are required, and that's generally in the form of a specialist 9.

I actually think Croker would make an ideal 14 (in a premiership team) - not a starting 9. Could slot pretty well in anywhere (aside from prop / backrow). He was an international half back coming through the grades, and he used to be mighty quick (prior to bulking up for the hooking role)
