"In any other cases where clubs wanted to include a player at late notice they would have to apply to the NRL for a special exemption and outline their case.

This may include bringing in a player from outside the squad if someone in a specialist position such as halfback was injured at training and there was no logical replacement among the reserves."

There may yet be a sneaky switch to come. The fact that Humphreys isn't named in NSW cup is the thing that has me scratching my head.
They don't generally get named in NSW Cup if they are named in the NRL squad on a Tuesday .

Make shift side, takes me back to mid week cup games.

So what's the consensus on why lawton is 7 and no humphries etc?
Its probably a defensive decision. Lawton as the 14 has been halves cover all season but we haven't needed it. This would suggest he has probably done quite a bit of training there throughout the season. If we were closer to full strength maybe Humphreys gets a shot but it's equally possible those that work with him on a daily basis just don't think he's ready.

The only thing I'm struggling to make sense of is that we are already so weak in the forwards this match and we are using one of our best replacement second rowers in the 7 jersey.

I think it's just a case of getting the best available players, in the most important positions. Seibs probably sees blooding rookie middles off the bench as a lesser evil than throwing Humphreys into an 80 min halves role in an already decimated team.

Then why is he not playing for Blacktown

I think today the expectations should be fairly low , these are huge changes to our team with a lot out through injury / origin.

Great for the newbies to debut , show us what they’ve got BUT we just cannot expect to be super competitive.

The betting market is usually spot on.

I’m keen to see how the newbies go and keen to see if there’s some fire in their bellies , but I’m certainly not going to be devastated, or critical , if we lose.
