Stand down tonight Trent.

So I say to you Peter, you need to have a talk with your in laws, the Penns, and stress what supporters have been seeing the past few years. A degeneration of the status of the club. No PR stuff on the back of the Manly Daily. Time to protect the club that I know you love.
What? Criticise his own personal gravy train? Good luck with that?

Barrett’s on a hiding to nothing
A rookie coach that has a the smallest off field budget of any club
An assistant who seems to make no impact
A fitness coach that seems to make no impact
Is that Barrett’s fault ? He is the head coach the buck stops with him or are his hands tied , something hard to gauge
He became head coach but it seemed he wasnt picking the players other influences all around him most likely thinking he was the rookie he needs helps . Well why in the hell hire him if he neede his hand held
The club made a mistake and got rid of a wealth of experience and hired Barrett and he still out of his depth
I,m not criticing Barrett I do believe he is trying his guts out to get results he just hasn’t got the experience or the right back room staff around him
He have some quality players some other coaches might get better results from
But if Barrett stays there needs to a complete overhaul off the back room staff
Or release Barrett and start all over again
My option would be to keep Barrett and fix the back room staff
Anyways back to finishing off my sausage roll
Mate, in the last 20 years we never had a big budget but we did well because we had such a strong culture. Apart from our colors anything that was Manly is gone and the owners did that deliberately.

He is not a rookie coach anymore, he just hasn't learned anything from all his past mistakes.
He has an eye for talent... as evidenced a few weeks back when he referenced Tangles Parker as being part of a group of six players he intended to build the club around. It was a great move as talent scouts everywhere were put on notice, that they were not going to be able to pry away the wonderful Manly junior.

There's a lot of sense in what you say. It seems Manly are trying slowly to rectify the situation with some improvements in management such as Gorman. But as you say they seem to be on a very tight budget. This raises the question as to why the Penn family seem so resistant in bringing in some big money groups to work in co-ordination with the Penn family. What are they scared of? I know they invested a lot into Manly, but they are now seemingly trying to run the club on a shoe string budget, and its not working. If they don't have the money, bring in a partner (but not Norths). They've dug their heels in against Greenberg's assaults, which is good, but when it comes to the team they seem disinterested.

I would make a plea to Peter Peters here. I don't like putting the boot into Peters because despite his flaws I think he cares for the club. So I say to you Peter, you need to have a talk with your in laws, the Penns, and stress what supporters have been seeing the past few years. A degeneration of the status of the club. Lots of good points here.

Regardless of what the #sackcrew say on here , I’m hearing the biggest issue is an absolute shoe string budget, the lowest of all 16 clubs!!

How does a CEO/Coach get a team consistently into the top 4 with almost zero budget to do anything???

Agree but in today's game we need that big budget to compete with other clubs

What determines a rookie 1 year 2 years ?
And yes he still makes rookie mistakes

He had quite a few coaching gigs before he came to us didn't he? But yeah mate, he doesn't have 5 years experience.

The problem with his "rookie mistakes" is that he is repeating them, not learning from them it seems. He will ever remain a rookie if he keeps doing that.

I think we’re overplaying the bees dick budget argument. Every team is working to the same salary cap ( yeah I know we suspect differently for some teams), and each team is expected to spend that budget. More like crap recruiting, coaching and culture.

Rugby league is a pretty simple game. Does a better gym and flash offices make a football side. Ask Parra and Canterbury! Broncos haven’t won a comp in 12 years.

Get onto the field , get the witches hats out and build a defensive structure and attacking variations that win football games using your rugby league nouse and elite footballers that can be mounded into a team. That is the job of a coach. The game is played on a patch of dirt with lines around it , not in a gym.

If the roster is not as strong as others it is still possible to build a team that competes through attitude and game plan. A loss is acceptable if it comes with effort and a plan. That’s all fans want. We don’t have either.

A thousand bagcarriers and support staff has done wonders for the Aus cricket team too. Money galore and can’t win a game outside the country with players breaking down every two weeks.

It seems the modem way to complicate the simple. I don’t buy it.Money helps but the lack of it should not provide a free pass for failure. 2006 to 2013 showed that in spades.
