Steve Georgallis has emerged as a contender to replace incoming Parramatta coach Brad Arthur as an assistant at Manly.
The grand finalists are on the lookout for an assistant to Geoff Toovey and the former Penrith caretaker is on a shortlist. Other candidates include Matt Parish, Tony Iro, Cliff Lyons and Craig Sandercock.
After playing 186 first-grade games with the Roosters and Tigers, Georgallis made his NRL coaching debut at Penrith after the club sacked Matthew Elliott midway through 2011. Several Panthers players implored management to install him as head coach on a permanent basis but he missed out to Ivan Cleary and subsequently joined the Wests Tigers staff. However, he is now a free agent after parting company with the joint-venture club at the end of the season.
Tigers captain Robbie Farah said in a recent interview that Georgallis was a first-grade coach in waiting.

''If he needs a reference, I'm happy to give him one,'' Farah said. ''Georgie has aspirations to be a first-grade coach and I definitely think he's a career coach. I'd love for him to get an opportunity somewhere because he's an asset to whichever club he goes to … I love Georgie, all the boys do, and … he's been a big influence on my career.''
Parish is a free to return to the club after Arthur - ironically the man who replaced him at the Sea Eagles - opted against retaining him at the Eels.
Parramatta have appointed former Hull KR coach Peter Gentle and Gold Coast's Steve Murphy as assistants. They have also signed former Manly and Melbourne utility Liam Foran on a second-tier contract. Foran, brother of New Zealand international Kieran, will provide halves cover after a stint with Salford.
