Wouldn’t take taumalolo

Dunn is one of the few i’d take

If the Cows wanted a player swap, I'd take Jake Granville in a heartbeat (obviously not as valuable as Marty, but still). He's been coming off the bench for them and he's a specialist hooker. Not as young as he once was (who is?) but I reckon a change of club would do him the world of good.

Whilst Marty's on big $ at Manly and taking up much cap space, imo he's our no. 1 prop and I can't see how he can be adequately replaced if we lose him.

"Desperate for more fire power up front, the Cowboys could make a move to sign Manly hit-man Marty Taupau ASAP." What about our fire power up front? If we lose Marty, we lose a fair bit of fire power ourselves and how will that be replaced?

"The Sea Eagles have made it clear they won't be re-signing the big man for 2023". Perhaps there's an addendum to this - .....at the big dollars he's currently on?

If a swap deal's done, then I guess Mitch Dunn might be a possibility but I still can't see Marty being equitably replaced. One thing's for sure, Paseka, Aloiai, Keppie, Sipley are really going to have to step up.

Watch Marty closely, he isn’t that good anymore. Never bends the line, no off loads… turned into a bit of a cat. It will be good when he’s gone.

Marty was playing good footy last year when he was coming off the bench. Need to do that again and see if he's still got it in him. Forward pack alpha leader is still what we badly need though.

The marty JT swap would never happen but don't forget Marty is on 800k this year. JT is 200K more but disgruntled with the coach and play up there.

He's had 3 years at the million dollar mark and isn't the player he was so perhaps back down to 800k? Marty won't sign a long term deal at 800k so this is his last big one. He's more a 600k player now.

We have a premiership window which the cows don't. Imagine the carve up down the middle with a Tam Tam breaking into the backfield passing to a Tom Tom for the Try Try.

I could but Dream Dream....

Would love it if we could get JT for the rest of the year and give them Marty. It doesn't look like it's going to be repaired at the cowboys between player and coach .

Not sure if he is totally engaged or wotnot but JT has been consistently the 3rd or 4th best forward on the field for the cows in the games i have watched over the last 12 months or so...

His minutes are down yet his impact is down too... injuries? Attitude? Who knows but not someone I would be chasing on that coin...

Yeah I agree. The JT situation is an interesting one. I personally never thought he was worth the money they payed him. Don’t get me wrong he was/is as destructive a forward as any on his day but he’s always had moments of going missing. If he can get back to the form of a couple of years back he’s be valuable to any side.

If Marty can get decent coin from the Cows, then he goes with my best wishes because he'd be taking a pretty big haircut if we extended him.

I think we can cover his departure.

As far as JT goes.....I can't see that happening even if he is at loggerheads with TP. He's on 7 figures and playing 30 minutes. Sweet deal.

Quite sure that Marty "s [ or most of it ] contract value has already been diverted after this season for the likes of Latu Fainu , the new Tigers 2 nd row recruit and maybe or some anticipated upgrades to current players . So can probably discount the notion of signing another high profile forward including J T from the Cows . Unfortunately seems a long time since Marty has given the semblance of the tear away type forward he once was , realize that some forwards evolve a bit and are still able to maintain their value but not in Marty ;s instance in recent years . Club seems to have a similar outlook and was keen to swap him last season even , good guy and role model but sadly for whatever reason, not providing the impact he once did .Hope that he can turn it around for the better and prove me wrong for the remainder of this season but does not look promising at this stage .

JT is completely disillusioned at The Cows. He'd light it up with support from his coach (something Des is very adept at). My trade would be:

To Cowboys
1. Marty Taupau;
2. Lachlan Croker;
3. Rookie (Weekes) - I KNOW this is a LOT, but Nth QLD have to win as well.

To Manly
1. Jason Taumalolo ($250k Cap hit retained);
2. Jake Granville (to retire at seasons end).

I'd then be grooming Jamie Humphries for DCE's spot (I don't extend DCE), leaving our halves for 2024 as (06. Schuster, 07. Humphries) - and a hell of a lot of cap space.

As someone already pointed out, most of the dollars saved by not retaining Marty next year are probably already committed elsewhere with upgrades, etc.
As for taking over someone's 10 year contract? No, please no! The Taumololo deal was madness when they did it and there is still 6 years to run.
If we could get him just for 2 years and see how he goes, fair enough, but why would he or the Cows accept that?
