As much as I loved the video and enjoyed seeing TH in full flight, we need to see more of his big left fend and seeing big Tezza making his opposite look stupid. I may be biased but one Terry Hill will be remembered as one of the best centre 3/4s to ever lace a boot.

Annette Sharp: No tribute for ‘thug’ NRL player Terry Hill from his victims

Tributes flowed for ex-NRL player Terry Hill following his death last week, but no one mentioned the incident that saw him branded a ‘thug’ by a magistrate, writes Annette Sharp.

The tributes for retired rugby league player Terry Hill were unequivocally positive and generous following his death last week. But notably missing from the gushing tributes were any sentiments from his two ex-wives, Tracey Benson and Kristie Fulton, daughter of league legend Bob Fulton.
In a week in which violence against women has been a hot topic of discussion, this column feels compelled to recall Hill’s un-manly record.

In 1995, Hill was branded a “thug” by a magistrate who found him guilty of assaulting radio producer Anthony Twiss and schoolteacher Peter Krahe after the two men, upon seeing Hill pulling his first wife Benson’s hair during an argument outside the Woollahra Hotel, intervened.

Both men were rewarded by being knocked to the ground by one of league’s toughest players who was an acknowledged streetfighter (as were his father and grandfather before him) and battered with a series of kicks to the body.

All the while the men claimed Hill shouted: “She’s my f..king sheila. I’ll treat her any f..king way I want.”

Benson stood by the 23-year-old football player, her partner of six years, at the time, but they later separated.

Hill was fined a piffling $1000 and put on a $400 two-year good behaviour bond for his actions.

And the ARL showed its colours and commitment to penalising violent players of the code by overlooking the charges.

Instead of benching Hill, ARL chairman Ken Arthurson rewarded him by sending him on the 1994 Kangaroo Tour of England.

Classy stuff in the DT there, having a go at a dead man and taking a swipe at Arko while they’re at it.

Obviously, if true, Hill’s behaviour towards his partner all those years ago was unacceptable (even by the standards of those times).

I may be wrong, but my understanding is that he was never charged or convicted with any offence relating to violence against women. The magistrate found him guilty of assaulting the men, and presumably didn’t make any finding as to the allegation of hair pulling because it would have been irrelevant.

The article also implies that he was violent toward Kristie, and i am not aware of any evidence of that.

All in all, in my view it is appalling that they would write this about a dead man.

Won’t even bother with that muckraking

Was there anything done for Terry Hill at the game last night ? I’m suspecting not. If I’m correct, what a disgraceful effort from the club, the Tigers did a better job than us

While violence against women is definitely an issue, it’s unfortunately the latest in media virtue signalling right now.

Driving home from work on Tuesday & had the radio on when news of the 19 year old woman found dead in a Bondi unit came through. Her 32 year old partner was apparently arrested so Gus Worland jumped on it to further hammer home what we (as men) have to do to stop this problem.

Turns out the woman in question died of a suspected drug overdose & her partner was arrested on an outstanding warrant for something else, so that story quickly sank without trace in days following.

I like Gus & think he’s done a lot of great work in regards to men’s mental health so it was a shame to hear him knee jerk react to that story.

Anyway, I don’t think the above article is appropriate at this particular time, as it does insinuate he was physically abusive to both his first wife & Kristi Fulton.

The penalty he received for assaulting those 2 guys was no doubt lenient (even for the time) but possibly his prior record (clean, I assume) was taken into account & as far as I’m aware he was never in any more trouble for similar after that, was he?

He was physically abusive to his first partner at the very least.

Sure, he was a good player, but not an all time great. He was funny on the Footy Show and I cheered him when he scored that famous try vs Brisbane. The knowledge of his earlier behaviour was always there however.

We have had the muckraking claims, then the virtue signalling stuff. Put yourself in the shoes of women everywhere, who suffer at the hands of men.

When broadcaster Alan Jones dies, will you be calling for a respectable hiatus before the inevitable stories emerge/re-emerge about his record of despicable behaviour?

I doubt it.

I mentioned that 1994 incident when he went offline as a human being.

Was I wrong to do so?
Not at all. The incident happened, and I think you raised it in the context of why the club may not have done more to remember Hill. You didn’t imply that he was abusive to all the women in his life like this article did.

He was physically abusive to his first partner at the very least.
I don’t think we know that for sure. As far as I know there is one instance of this being alleged in 1994. He was never charged or convicted of it.

If he was in fact abusive to his partners that’s a terrible thing and should be called out, but it’s not appropriate to make such allegations when the man is not here to defend himself.

Maybe that's the reason why Manly didn't do a Terry Hill tribute at one of the last 2 home games ?

She’s at it again:

Annette Sharp: Short memories on Terry Hill’s lifetime ban for headbutting ref

More tales of Terry Hill’s violent past have come to light, with a report of the ex-NRL player headbutting a referee during a game of touch footy in the ’80s, writes Annette Sharp.

The Sunday Telegraph

While a number of Terry Hill’s (male) fans were quick to email and pour scorn on our report on Saturday concerning the footy player’s less heroic and largely forgotten violent off-field antics, one recalled an earlier incident involving Hill playing touch football.
In 1993 — a decade before Hill knocked two men to the ground outside the Woollahra Hotel after they came to the aid of Hill’s wife Tracey during an argument — Hill brutally headbutted a referee overseeing a game of touch at Umina’s McEvoy Oval.

The blow knocked the ref out and led to Hill, playing for Woy Woy, being given a lifetime ban from touch football.

He was also later handed an AVO and sentenced to perform community service.

It seems a lifetime touch football ban doesn’t necessarily apply to another code — and it certainly didn’t when Hill found fame and glory playing rugby league.

Nineteen years on, in 2022, when the retired Hill started coaching the Kincumber Rugby League team, members of the referee’s family contacted the NRL to ask if the touch football life ban would have any bearing on Hill’s role as a country rugby league coach.

In a letter penned by the boss of the NRL Integrity Unit, the NRL responded that, having conducted its own investigations. it had found that the Touch Football Association (TFA) “does not have a record of Terry Hill receiving a life ban in 1993, which would carry today”.

“In response to your query regarding whether a life ban in 1993 operated across sporting codes, we have not been able to confirm this,” the NRL responded.

“Further, both our records and TFA’s records do not demonstrate that a ban issued by Woy Woy Touch Football Association in 1993 would carry today in the NRL.”

So there’s no evidence of the lifetime ban yet she still wrote the article & actually included that fact?

Also “in 1993, a decade before 1993”.

LOOOOOOOOL

Alan Jones has been diddling young men for decades & is being called out for it now yet continually denies it.

Terry Hill appeared once in court for assault & copped to it.

What a low breed of journo this thing is, so whilst we are bringing up the past

Annette Sharp, Journalist

The Daily Telegraph, News Corporation ASX:NWS, August 9, 2012

Sharp often writes for The Daily Telegraph stories based upon fabricated, dishonest and obnoxious musings of FIONA BYRNE of the Melbourne Herald Sun, a leading nomination as Australia’s Worst Journalist.

Her stories contain the same factual errors, errors by deliberate omission, and the targets of her unwarranted, unfair and unbalanced diatribe, seriously defamed.

The Editor of The Daily Telegraph should immediately terminate Sharp as neither he nor his employer would most certainly want to be engaged in litigation.

One of her targets was alleged to have committed fraud. There is no evidence of this and another target is described as having been bought up in a location which is factually wrong and seriously defamatory. This disgusting concoction and lies should be retracted and an apology issued immediately. The editor can facilitate this action before or after Sharp’s termination.

Sharp’s entire vitriolic attack was meant to harm her targets with no justification.

ANNETTE SHARP, you deserve to be nominated AGAIN as Australia’s Worst Journalist and the editor of The Daily Telegraph should, if there is any integrity, dismiss you immediately.

I think you’re missing the point.

However I am not engaging in this any further, because you appear to be one of several forum members who are tone deaf to what is happening in Australia right now, regarding women’s safety issues at the hands of men.

Absolute rubbish & a huge cop out on your part.

I’m well aware of what is happening in Australia right now in regards to women’s safety issues at the hands of men.

However, I’m not going to crucify a recently deceased player who fronted court for assault of 2 MEN over 30 years ago & never had similar charges levelled against him since, simply because of the issue at the front & centre of the news cycle right now.

You have no evidence to support your claims & your opinion is based on that very strawman.
