Now we know the secret to his longevity as he has the tendency to go missing in 4-5 games a season. He has now put a few of them together already in 2024.

I’m a fan but can’t stand his inconsistency.
Not sure about “going missing”

We lose by a lot more if it was not for his cover defence… his attack was not fantastic but can’t remember him dropping a ball either (which plenty did)

He inexplicably through it to brown on the 5th, who promptly dropped it, why would a half throw it to a prop fit an attacking kick?

He just takes too many wrong
Options, too often, that bullet cut out ball to no one on the second tackle was unforgivable

I think he is a great player, but we should expect more and get more than we did today.

You'd think at 35 he would have developed a bit of a footy brain. Yet somehow his options with the ball and reads in defence get worse and worse. I remember saying years and years ago. We will never win another comp while he's here. His first one was due to Stewart's Lyon foran etc.

Now he's the leader. Their mentality is soft like their leader.

He has been progressively worse the last 3 weeks. He definitely has taken the wrong option more often than not in this period. That pass over the sidelines on tackle 1 was unforgivable! On their line he goes short side 2 times in a row when we have a big set up to the left and he doesn't seem to like taking a tackle leading to his panic kicks on tackle 0 last week. Cherry always has this dip in form and come origin he usually finds his feet. Tommy boy is another issue, wtf was that today. It brings back memories of that absolutely wretched game he once had a few years ago maybe some can help me here lol

Panthers about five years back we were winning at halftime live 26/0 and folded in the second half Turbo had a shocker

I was mentioning even when we were winning games this season, Chez is nowhere near the form he was in last year. This game proves it. One of his worst games since who knows when. Just going back to the very erratic and headless chook type options. Low percentage options, trying to create something out of nothing most the time instead of being patient like a good halfback should and organise the team to build pressure. It's so frustrating because he took a massive forward step last year and now it feels he's gone two steps back.

Our boy always starts slow 🐌 when they start talking of origin he'll start playing better

I heard talk of building pressure during the Manly Way series. Have they abandoned that and gone back to trick shots and low percentage plays? Somehow I doubt they were following the instructions of the coaching staff on the field yesterday. When your side is struggling you get them back into the grind and reduce errors and then build pressure with repeat sets. It’s not rocket science.

Geez your number 7 is good.... So for someone with no idea to make that observation, he's obviously doing ok.
Correct, as at least half the fans know, you need to have no idea to think he is anything more than average. His 46% win rate since 'the lifetime deal' is the testament to this. In some alternate universe this unequivocal information can be used positively by removing anyone that thinks he is above average from decision making positions, then we would be back to our winning ways in no time.

On the cusp of Manly’s games record, DCE still feels like an ‘imposter’

After 14 years with the Sea Eagles, skipper Daly Cherry-Evans still hates the limelight – but he’s had to learn to live with it, especially in a week when a club milestone looms.

When the 35-year-old halfback steps out onto Brookvale Oval on Saturday, he’ll become the most capped player in the club’s history, surpassing the record of 309 games set by club legend Cliff Lyons.

It’s a very surreal feeling, passing a legend of the club, something that’s obviously held in high regard,” Cherry-Evans said.

“I certainly didn’t set out to beat a record like this, but I guess along the way you just want to keep playing because you love it, but the competitive side of you obviously thinks about these things.

I’m surprised I got here – all careers have their ups and downs. I’ve learnt a lot, loved every bit of it, and it’s a really proud moment for me and the family.”

After 14 seasons, a premiership win and playing more than a third of his career as captain, Cherry-Evans admitted he still has a bit of “imposter syndrome” when it comes to going down in Manly’s history books alongside the likes of Lyons and Steve Menzies.

Daly Cherry-Evans will become the most capped Sea Eagles player when he runs out against the Panthers on Saturday.

“Cliff Lyons is individually one of the best … there’s a reason that he’s in the rugby league hall of fame – he’s a legend of the game.

“I certainly haven’t done what he’s done in the game, so I guess there’s a part of me that does feel a bit of imposter syndrome passing someone like Cliffy Lyons because of what he’s done in the game ...

That’s a part that I don’t let myself think about too much. You’ve just got to try and make sure you focus on what you can control, and that’s just me maximising my career. I think it’s a dangerous game when you start comparing yourself to legends of the game, you can sometimes forget how far you’ve come as a person.”

At times, Lyons more than anybody was the one encouraging Cherry-Evans to break his longstanding record.

“He’s the sort of bloke that’s even at times egged me on and just said, ‘Go on mate, go and pass it’,” Cherry-Evans said. “He sees that the records are there to be broken, so he’s been really supportive of me throughout my career.”

Menzies, who played for the Sea Eagles between 1993 and 2008, is the third most capped player for the club with 280 games to his name. If the 69 games he played for the Northern Eagles – a joint venture between the North Sydney Bears and the Sea Eagles from 2000 to 2002 – counted towards his total, Menzies would hold the record with 349 games.

At this stage, Cherry-Evans looks set to pass that number as well. With at least 20 games left in 2024, another year on his contract and no sign of slowing down, it’s not outlandish to think he could be nudging 400 games when he finally decides to call time on his career

It’s a milestone only ever reached by one man, Cameron Smith, who played 430 matches for Melbourne and, like Cherry-Evans, was a one-club player.

“I feel like it’s got a few more years left in it but, again, I’ll definitely be guided by my performance, how my body feels, and I guess where the club sees me,” Cherry-Evans said.

“I don’t know some of those answers, but the things I can control is how I’m looking after myself, and the footy I’m playing. So I’m just always trying to find improvement in those things, and enjoying what I’m doing.”

Great effort DCE...But, Beaver 349 games in my eye holds the record, but thats not how its counted
This is so true.

Kind of disappointed that the club itself is not standing behind our biggest living club legend Beaver Menzies who we all know is the real benchmark despite what the NRL, and David Middleton might say otherwise.

Someone tell me when he played club football in Australia without any maroon and white and reference to a bird of prey.

When (not if) DCE passes 349 then I will be standing and applauding.

He will still have to run around in Super League to beat Beavers overall record of 477 top level league club games.

I think you need to show some respect to a player that will very soon have played the most ever games for this great club. He has won a Grand Final, played SOO & also played for Australia. There is not much more he can do.

Without DCE we would be imbedded as a bottom four team and then you would have the right to whinge.

I hope the team can put it together on Saturday & win it for Cherry!

I never understood any hate towards DCE
Paid too much? how is that his problem...he gets paid what the club wants to pay him
Contract too long? see above point...also how many games does he miss?
Limits our attack etc? Apart from maybe one other half back who else would you have?

A well deserved milestone
