I expect much like when Foz , Choc even Des first left with some time we might view things differently with DCE.

All that said next year will be interesting…as for the thread as if we are not going to talk about him next year (and this is the place to do it)

Some of you might end up viewing DCE differently. I wont.

I see a lot of goodwill towards Foran these days, but I well remember the day in Albury v the Raiders where he literally did not even try to compete, especially defensively.

Disgraceful display to the jersey on that occasion, and not easily forgotten or forgiven.

FOZ and DCE

RL is a tough gutsy game and while fans enjoy many facets, attack, skill , athleticism , the toughness but the test of character which is a HUUUGE part, keep those remotes tuned in and the turnstiles clicking

Its one of those things that natural ability and genes just doesn't bring to the table. Its the extra mile , the 10% often quoted by the 110% men in our game , and its impact is enormous.

foran epitomised this characteristic, where DCE , even amongst his own fan base left many people questioning his will and his heart. Not necessarily his competitiveness, but his desire to put his body on the line for the team. You dont play professional sport and play in the same team and just miss that, while icing your torso , a testicle, 4 toes wearing a neckbrace

Footy player respect was on show at the titans while the DCE show is full of superlatives and high fives

DCE has long taken shortcuts in the physical department despite his fitness, energy and durability . His choice, good luck to him , but for many , the chasm between the 2 players is enormous in this area, where foz is Team first, all in, follow me and can you pick up my collar bone i dropped on halfway before i give you a saloon passage to score please

DCE will be the winner overall, as most footy players body take too much if we really think about it but you cant have your legacy cake and eat it

DCE will Always be a pretty boy to me, who tried hard at some things and had all the skills , but as meatloaf used to say

I would do anything for love, but i wont do that ! will always be my memory
My memory of Foz is exactly the opposite

DCE played his most consistent game with Foz as 5/8 and without him he was not as good, Foz did the organising allowing DCE to play what was in front of him.

It is sad that these two did not play their full careers together and the events of late 2014 where as a club we failed to retain them both put the club right behind the 8 ball as these players were the new leaders to be and take over when the last great team ended.

I do hope that the club does all it can to lock up our good young players so that we have continuity moving forward!

The thing for me is always that most of the guys are young men when they make these decisions (clearly not DCE).

Re Foz when you read about his mental state at the time and in the following years I am a little more accepting.

I am also very much aware that I only ever get a curated / selected version of the story no matter what the "source".

I did not like how DCE announced he was leaving but all that said by doing it early it did allow the club to plan and recruit effectively. I hold no malice towards how much he has been paid or the roles he has been asked to do as they are club based decisions - the club decided to pay him or not and the amount they want.

I was when they took John Harvey.
Yeah, Chooks pinching the likes of Fulton and Vautin at the end of their careers is one thing, but poaching very young Manly guys like Harvey and Elsegood was downright annoying.
Happily neither of them did as well when they went there!

foran epitomised this characteristic, where DCE , even amongst his own fan base left many people questioning his will and his heart.
Haha come on James you're letting the euphoria cloud your judgment, or at least your words!
True that DCE has always played a different style to Foz (very few halves haven't) but to question the will and heart of a guy who has gone over 350 games of NRL, and been Manly's marked man in nearly all of them, is kind of funny.
Far from "many people" questioning this, I suggest it is more likely only a handful of fans here on ST. (And probably no-one who has ever actually played NRL.)
🙂

Wouldn 't be really feasible but would be fairly sure that over his long Manly stint , many more ratings of 6 to 7 out of 10 on game day ratings then 8 out of 10 or even the very rare 9
Most likely way more in the average to just passible range and taking into account some performances this season , more in the 4 to 5 bracket
Not to generalize it into that big a deal but when a player has been on 1 , 3 mil for a good part of the 15 year stint and at one stage the highest paid player in the N R L , has to represent a not insignificant point
Skillful and talented individual player also without doubt and individual being the operative reference there and also to give due credit , someone who has always apparently worked on his game tirelessly since he was a kid , so credit where credit is due there
Know someone who coached him as a 17 year old in my local Mackay area and he was adamant that his improvement and development even after being a fairly impressive junior under him was really noteworthy , particularly in the speed department
Doubt that he will generally be regarded as a true Manly Great but like his old junior adversity back in the day in the N Q - C Q region , Ben Hunt , definitely , a high achiever and quality player by N R L standards

Better make that adversary instead of adversity before Budgie and Sea EagleRock 8 pick me up on it

Ive always thought DCE needs a stacked hand to really shine , qld also have all the moving parts. His name gives it away, hidden in plain sight “ cherry on top “ case closed people

Between the Penn and Des show
The DCE sitting out saga with gifty, a new ERA was born

We used to talk of players taking unders , for the last decade overs
