Looks like Suli, Haumole and AFB are clearly tight. Interesting if they convince each other that they all want to play together again. Kind of aligns for 2025. Dragons would have to be a chance you would think.

Haumole should still have some general affinity with the likes of Koula, Shu , Saab or most likely the majority of the current squad grouping considering he has been in the Manly system for the best part of 7 seasons now .
Might be a bit of a strain on any club including the Saints to have 2 forwards on 1 , 8 - 9 mil although not much different for the situation with Jake and Haumole with Haumole "s proposed Manly upgrade
If Haumole still has not signed in the early or mid point of next season , could be a bit of concern from a Manly perspective then .

Its a gamble for these players. Long contracts are beneficial because they will get paid regardless of injury. Whereas if he holds off then there is an element of risk. I'd love to know what his reservations are. The devil is sometimes in the detail so there could be ongoing negotiation about termination clauses.

I think this gets overplayed a little.

Sure it could be a factor but I think it is a less significant factor than what people make out.

Dollars, contract length, coaching, premiership chances, area you live, having to move particularly if kids schooling is involved, positional opportunities and others I think weigh more heavily that 'I want to play where my mate plays'

Like...you can still be mates and socialise with people you don't work with.

Manly star Haumole Olakau’atu has agreed to a bumper $7.5 million contract extension that will keep him at the Sea Eagles until the end of 2031.
Olakau’atu was contracted to Manly for a further two years but has agreed terms on a revised eight-year deal that makes him one of the highest earners in the game.
The new deal ensures Olakau’atu will remain off the market at a time when edge back rowers are in high demand.
At 25, Olakau’atu is entering his prime and the Sea Eagles have ensured his best years will be with them after tying him down for the foreseeable future.
Olakau’atu is expected to formally sign a new contract on Thursday afternoon.

The spin on this story is interesting. The statement “makes him one of the highest earners in the game” is a bit misleading.Yes,his overall figure after 8 yrs is high, but year to year,he’s on less than $1 million and there’s plenty of players on or over a million. And considering the cap has and will continue to rise,he’ll be further down the highest earners list, the further his contract goes.
Now whether you think he’s worth $900K+ a season,is another argument

Have to consider that Jake turbo will be due a pretty significant pay cut for his next contract. You could pretty much swap his and haumoles contracts and that’s how it’s going to work out for us at this stage.. Aloiai won’t get re signed for the same coin either. It’s an astute signing as he’s gonna be the best forward in the game soon.

From the SMH.

I chopped out the last few paragraphs (in this article) about Cate Kurpwell’s move to the Warriors, because let’s face it apart from some people in the adult film industry, who cares?

Sea Eagles lock in Olakau’atu with $7 million, eight-year extension

Manly have moved to make Haumole Olakau’atu a Sea Eagle for life and one of the highest-paid forwards in the NRL with an upgraded eight-year deal valued at more than $7 million.

Olakau’atu’s eye-watering new contract is expected to be announced on Thursday afternoon, as the Warriors confirmed their poaching of premiership-winning Broncos veteran Kurt Capewell in an immediate transfer.

At 25, Olaukau’atu is viewed as a long-term linchpin of Manly’s roster and is now tied up until the end of 2031.

Sources, speaking on the condition of anonymity due to the confidential nature of talks, have indicated Olakau’atu is slated to earn around $900,000 a year across the next eight seasons.

His deal is described as a “straight six-year upgrade” with no player or club options contained in the fine print.

Olakau’atu was already contracted until the end of 2025 but has been in talks around a long-term upgrade for much of this season with the Dragons and Wests Tigers sniffing around the hard-hitting back-rower earlier in the year.

Smart signing and this suggests to me that he smells success coming at Manly. He must like what he sees in the new coaching structure.
And vice versa. Manly have identified that locking Haumole up long-term is critical for our success in the short-medium term, in particular he is a lure for possible high-end recruitment targets.
