Wally O'connell, Kangaroo Test five-eighth, ,will have an anxious week-end. He is coach of the Manly-Warringah
team, which will meet Balmain in the Rugby League "match of the day" at the Cricket Ground this afternoon. O'Connell is desperately keen that Manly should make the most of this big opportunity.
On Monday night O'connell probably will hear the decision of the N.S.W. Rugby League on his claims to become qualified to play with Manly-Warringah in the Anzac Day round.
O'connell last night again appeared before the League's qualifications committee, which will report to the League on Monday night.
O'connell, who took up residence in Manly area on March 26, claims that he had fulfilled 12 months' residence at Wollongong, where be was playing-coach last season. His claim is being contested by Eastern Suburbs Club, for which he was playing when chosen as a Kangaroo in 1948.
O'connell said last night: "Manly has built up its strength and the move is going to pay.
"To-morrow we will rely on the tactics that beat St. George on Monday. We will aim at attractive play, based on the work of a keen, young pack of forwards, who are 80-minute players."

I think it is fair to say that Manly has stayed true that ever since. Unlike some other clubs we can name.
