The real premiership window - 2027 onwards

You can complain as much as you want about the coach, Waddell and whoever else.

And you are probably right.

But it all comes back to the contracts of Tom, Jake and DCE - $3.5m or thereabouts, and we are getting a broken Tom, a checked out 37yo Chery and a plodding Jake.

So basically, nothing out of our top 3 paid players.

Until all of these contracts roll off at the end of 2025 (checked out Cherry) and 2026 (busted Turbos), the math says we are just making up the numbers.
This is a good take on things. I have no problem with paying 3 players an average of a million bucks; that’s not the problem, per se. It’s pretty normal. The problem is what you get in return for that investment.

When those deals were done, the return was pretty good, but circumstances have changed and we are no longer getting bang for our buck. The performances from the big three are not good enough to offset the lack of balance elsewhere; particularly in the forwards.

So, reduced deals for Tom and Jake, and Fog’s deal coming in cheaper than Chez, might allow us some wiggle room to build a better pack. We’ll see.

I hear many people still saying that we have a good roster, and that we should be pushing for a title. Usually that's used as a justification to call for sacking the coach and/or Mestrov, since we aren't going well.

If history is a judge, you need 7 origin players or so, to win the title. With DCE's dropping, we officially have zero origin players whatsoever. Penrith are doing poorly, and still have origin players.

This may be good for us in the short term, but it really shows the failure of this club in the past decade. We wrapped our hopes in the Trbojevics and DCE, who, despite still being on massive back-ended deals, aren't even in the origin conversation. They will all line up for Manly.

I think our premiership window is while Fogarty is at the club. I've heard some terrible accounts of Joey Walsh's character, he's a deadset flog, and on the football side, has never been an organiser. I fear we'll end up with DCE 2.0 with him. We haven't signed an organiser to partner him... We've signed Large, another mercenary, who is a runner.

Looking forward to Fogarty, but I am really hoping we find someone other than Walsh.

Harsh comments on Walsh… kid is just starting out and hailed as the next big thing? Of course that may feed a kids ego and go to his head… but, it’s a long road to go yet, give the kid a chance.. (and DCE as a kid wasn’t ? lol)

Only someone who doesn't watch any other team play or has completely lost any sense of reality believes we are in a premiership window. We are short a decent forward pack and until that changes we are closer to being in a spoon window than premiership window.

We're now closer to the year 2050...than the year 2000!

Er, that's all, sorry.

Long running thing with his character... All good guy in front of the lights, a terrible person behind that. Heard from someone that knew him at St Augustines, was basically given everything on a platter, thought he was a king, bullied other students, including this one I know well, who is now a great young man. His brothers, and the school basically protected him from any sort of punishment, so he thinks he's a god.

Walsh is a lowlife. Of course, boys will be boys, and I obviously did similar things at that age, but the difference is that the guys I bullied ended up in jail, but this guy was indiscriminate, attacked good kids, called them slurs, and told them their lives were worthless, etc. Real beating down sort of person. An entitled liar and sycophantic in nature.

Scum of the earth.

Wow, that is certainly a glowing reference ....... You shouldn't have held back.

This is exactly what we don’t need. Coming out of the self centred DCE era into this. For all of our sakes, I really hope this is off the mark.
With Tommy breaking down, Jake slowing up both soaking up a huge portion of our cap. Along with DCE wanting out and all our healthy forwards playing at NSW cup standard. Now a brat of a halfback succession plan, it really sucks to be at Manly supporter.

I wouldn’t worry. I can assure you Geoff Toovey was a complete ahole at school also. In fact the earlier description of Walsh fit Toovey perfectly. Suffice to say he mellowed but as an 18 year old he was not likeable.
