Tom and Jake

Various commentators have said post-match (Matty Johns was one) that it looked like the shackles had been broken & a great weight had been released & we just went out & played footy against the Dolphins.

It could be that Turbo's been stressed about his various injuries for a long time, & worried about further injuries (which is often when you get injured) & maybe it was a combination of DCE leaving, it being only 3 rounds to go, playing at Brookie on a nice sunny day, freed him up mentally & let him play close to his full potential again.

Hopefully that was him giving himself a break from carrying so much angst about everything & we'll see him back to his best next season under a new captain (if not captain himself).

Seibold got hammered but made the right call and played Tom at centre for a couple of weeks, Tom got his game fitness back without running 7km a game at fullback. That would be a good blueprint going forward, if Tom gets injured bring him back a week or two in the centres and then fullback, Kolua and Hoppa always great fill ins.

Name me the teams/fullbacks you would swap out for Tom.

Walsh has too many errors in his game. But is the best at the moment.

Teddy and Edwards are similar to Tom, past their best.

Drinkwater is inconsistent.

Pappy is fragile.

Ponga and Latrell rarely play.

Hammer isn't a real fullback.

Gutho, Kennedy, Weekes, Tracey, Bula and Iongi all do decent jobs but all have weaknesses in their games.

I will hang onto Tom.

According to the article,
the Brookvale favourite was left fuming when the club reneged on the terms of an agreed-upon $2.7 million, three-year contract.

Yet
However, in a dramatic U-turn, Trbojevic this week accepted a revised one-year deal estimated at more than $900,000

Yep, more than the annual amount of the initial contract, yet this constitutes a
$300k betrayal from Manly Sea Eagles

What appalling click-bait journalism!
James Phelps, you are a vvanker!

and it also incorrectly says that he will be there for 2026 ,the extension is for 2027 .
The term Rugby league "journalist" really is a low bar of bad grammar ,incorrect facts and general mangling of the kings English and the facts

Personally I'd have liked him on a multi year deal but I coukd see how a 1 year extension suits all parties.
So whats the thinking with just the 1yr extension from both sides ?
If he goes well in 26/27 he can ask for more ,and from the clubs POV I guess if he breaks down again they only have 1 extra years payout .And if he goes well he is a bargain at 900k .
There I go I think I have answered by own question

Haha thats it.

Tom is backing himself to have a blinder and shore up his value.

Club is mitigating its risk if he continues to breakdown. However that in itself is a risk as if he kills it his 3 year extension at 900 or whatever it was may look cheap.
