Turbo tough: Trbojevic cleared of cheek fracture, asks Des to play

Manly superstar Tom Trbojevic has been cleared of a fractured cheekbone and has told coach Des Hasler he is keen to play against Canberra on Friday night.

In news that will come as a huge relief to Sea Eagles fans, Trbojevic completed most of Monday’s training session and has made it known he wants to continue to take part in the club’s push for a top-four berth.

Should Hasler bench Trbojevic for the Raiders’ clash, the star fullback is determined to return the following week against struggling Canterbury. Manly then play North Queensland in the final round.

A plate inserted into his left cheekbone at the end of 2018 is understood to have shifted slightly, which caused some swelling, after a head knock with teammate Jason Saab early in the second half during Manly’s blowout 56-10 win over Parramatta.

Trbojevic and Saab are seen colliding while trying to stop Eels centre Waqa Blake from scoring in the 54th minute. Saab is seen one tackle later running over to Trbojevic in back play as a trainer checked on his face.

Trbojevic is understood to have not felt any pain, and the swinging arm from Eels winger Maika Sivo late in the game, which led to Sivo being charged with a careless high tackle, did nothing to worsen the injury.

Not only will Trbojevic’s availability help Manly, it will also keep his Dally M hopes alive in what is shaping as a two-horse war with Cody Walker for the game’s top gong.

The influence of Trbojevic at the Northern Beaches club has continued to grow this year. Since 2019, Manly have won just 11 of 35 games, a winning percentage of 31 per cent, when Trbojevic has not featured, but won 24 of 32 games when he has played.

Trbojevic has enjoyed a golden run since he returned from a hamstring injury at the start of the year, dominating the State of Origin series and winning the Wally Lewis Medal.
He has also given up alcohol this season to give himself the best chance of being in the best form possible every week.

Even after taking the knock on Saturday night, he had three try assists - including one for Reuben Garrick, who will play fullback should Trbojevic be rested against Canberra.

Rookie forward Kurt De Luis told reporters on Monday Manly were ready to soldier on without their talisman. “Just because Tommy is out we don’t lose track of what we want to do,” De Luis said.

“We want to finish in the top four. I think a lot of people think without Tommy we’re not the side we are but we know as a playing group with or without Tommy we’re still a team to be reckoned with.

“We’ve had a couple of tough wins without him during the Origin period so there’s no reason why we can’t do it again and really prove to everyone and ourselves that it’s not just the Tommy T show.”

I love how they say he has been cleared of a fracture but needs to ask Des to play.

As if Des will keep him out of the side. Media are imbeciles every day of the week and twice on Sundays

So:

Lies!

Lies!

Lies!

Lies!

Lies!

Damn Lies!

Plus I said I thought it was the collision with Saab so in future everyone just ask me or the leader of the tipping comp if you want the truth!

Fox Sports reported it as a jaw fracture at one point too… what an absolute circus.

If anyone is asking if he can play it would be Des asking Tom and the medical staff if he is right to go.

There is no need for Tom to be asking if he is fit.
Media bull**** again.

It's a classic Des smother here. I heard from my neighbours aunt's cousin twice removed that Tom had in fact slipped again in the bathroom while racing Harry for the last spring roll at the Twin Waters buffet.

Any wonder an old IT journo called his colleagues "the reptiles of the press".

If there isn't a real story then make something up.
