Tommy Talau

Doesn't have to be much, maybe a T&T or a supplementary spot. IMO the situation changed when Talau decided to leave.

Also, I'm fairly certain the departing players list came before the game? Presumably that means we intended to give him another contract before the injury.

Do we want to be a club that people actually want to join, or screws over their players to save a dime? We have been the latter for a decade, and I think that should change.
Fair call if some sort of agreement had been reached.

The Dragons put Volkman on the streets after they discovered he had suffered an injury at the Warriors prior to the 2024 season. They ripped up his contract, and were absolutely blasted for it. I believe they also had to pay him $40k in the end.

Meanwhile, the Warriors, in similar circumstances to what we are in now, paid for his rehab and looked after him for the remainder of that year. They had no obligation to do so, but they did it because he suffered the injury while at the Warriors.

These are two different scenarios. 1st you are wrong the dragons got in trouble because they ripped up the contract we are ripping up nothing he was leaving. I never said we don't cover his medical and rehab as we will as he was insured with us last night but to suggest we owe him a new contract is ridiculous.

What you are suggesting when a player is out of contract if he is injured the club owes him a new deal wow.

If he was offered a handshake deal contract, then absolutely yes.

Would be incredibly scummy if take away his contract offer because he was injured in a game playing for us.

The first example is to present a precedent on two things. Firstly, offering a contract, and then retracting it because of medical reasons, and secondly, the Warriors looking after his rehab post employment.

It depends on the details, but if we don't even support his rehab, that is pathetic.

You serious? the warriors knew he was injured and withheld the info from the dragons. The dragons did him wrong but the warriors were also dirty.

The warriors did the right thing in the end but only after pressure.

Im pretty sure they pay medical and rehab as an employee at time of injury

I think moving Talau on just sums up the modern game and how the club manages the cap, sad to see him go as he really put in for the club.
I agree. Strikes me a a confidence player with reasonable 1st grade ability. Makes a few mistakes but is a more than adequate back up for the outside backs. Hope there's a re-think and we retain him.

For similar reasons, Mestrov can't go out and blast DCE and call him money hungry or something. It's such a terrible look for the club, and any prospective players.

Imagine you suffer a workplace injury on your last day, that prevents you from getting another job. Imagine if the workplace you're at, not only doesn't help you, actively tells you to piss off. Would you recommend prospective replacements to join that business? Absolutely not.
As previously posted, help with his surgery and rehab sure but certainly do not feel obligated to offer a top 30 contract

Even if they only did it under pressure, that's still the precedent, and they should do the same here.

With regards to the contract offer. I don't think pulling it after he is injured is fair, and if this came to light within the general public, I don't think it would be accepted well at all.

We also gave Lodge a contract when he did his ACL, and he's a turd. If we were going to offer something to Schoupp, and changed our mind, that's a poor reflection on the club. That's my opinion at least.

There is reports he was close to a deal with Warrington(NewsCorp) prior to injury. As usual with this club, details are very rarely given out

Warriors didn't re-sign to a top 30 contract though did they.

By all means look after him, Id even be fine with a train and trial or development deal but not a top 30 contract.

If a deal was offered he also had an opportunity to accept it, now whether he was negotiating better terms or looking elsewhere he took on the risk of playing whilst not having a contract in place.

Probably may not have been all that much of an increased offer for T T 2 to move on but a starting position [ or a more likely one ] the principal factor
Guess that he or his manager can only go on recent developments as well with again Turbo getting or mainly getting his mojo at fullback recently , and Lehi and Saab , Garrick , i st cabs of the rank then for wing and a centre spot
Has had his share of injuries this season as well which may have influences down his contract estimated value for Manly
Without doubt however , one of those players who is too good for a regular bench spot and a few clubs out there who would view him as a more then useful starting centre

Meaning, Manly's offer wasn't good enough, I wish they wouldn't play ducks and drakes with these articles.
I’d suggest the “ no guarantee of first grade run on” is probably the more important issue here.

And remember he hasn’t actually got a start elsewhere yet , so money , at this stage isn’t a factor.

If it was the end of the 2026 season & Garrick was leaving to take up a lucrative contract in Perth, we’d be keeping Talau & he’d be a starting back.

He’s proven himself as a first grader & we can’t keep him on ice as a back up for another year, so unfortunately we have to let him go.

But, with a substantial offer comes the guarantee of playing 1st grade you would have to say. Around 250k or less, and you are battling to prove yourself.

Of course if some club forks out $650k for him then that would be a run on spot.

Anyway good luck to him , he thinks he can crack a big contract , for him , I hope he does.
