Uate or Locke

Both wingers have question marks against their names heading into the new season. Who do we prefer on the wing?

If both play to their potential, I think I would prefer Uate purely because I think Locke is a little too light to help us get out of our own end. I do like Locke and think he is a talent with speed to burn but I think he is a specialist fullback and not big enough to keep up with today's robust wingers.

Regardless of what we think - I'd say from the outset of the season it will be Uate, purely because they wouldn't have swapped Buhrer for a guy they intend to play in ressies.

Easy answer really, Uate is a specialist winger!!

But if he turns to **** ( possible ) I think they'll look for a bigger body than Locke for that spot.

Agreed. They'll start with Uate and if he doesn't work out or gets injured, Omar S or Parker will come in I would think.

I think all bets are off and no promises made. Both are playing to ressurect careers and the player that gets the nod will be the one that puts in the most at training and in the trials.

If we take on Locke he'll be on low coin..I heard like $90K or something to start with.. Uate is costing us $200k + so Im guessing Aku will be one of our starting wingers. It's the other wing spot that has healthy competition - Georgie, Locke and Parker, etc which is a good thing. Locke will be a great signing if he's ok mentally and physically. Great fullback depth for Turbo and a wing option too. Kid can play.

It's an interesting scenario playing out. Uate, Locke, Tafua, Turbo, Snake (?) Kelly, Omar.. lots of potentials. The only certains in the backline are Walker, DCE and Green. They may chuck Turbo into the centres (not what I would want to see but who knows) Snake or Locke at fullback? Kelly comes with big wraps maybe they see him on a wing in front of Tafua.. I get the feeling that there are still a lot of unknows for our backline.

The trick will be to choose a combination and stick with it. Leave them in place to develop teamwork. Another year of frequent changes is the last thing we need.

We didn't "swap" Buhrer for Uate. There may have been a deal involved, but it will be in our favour financially.

Uate is coming here from reserve grade - he will need to fight for his spot.

For what it's worth - I think he'll perform. Fingers crossed he does as it will be great for the team.

A lot hinges on Jorge - Assuming he recovers from the surgery, stays with the club and stays in the backs - hes our first picked winger

Agreed but what's going for Kevin is though he's not the barging type of ball runner he's quick and he has a go.. He wont submit in tackles and if opposition defensive lines aren't spot on when he's returning the ball he can still carve u up with a step and speed.. this fella intrigues me - could be anything.

Uate will be Manlys top try scorer in 2017...Locke will push for a spot if his attitude is 100% and Tafua is no guarantee though will have that left wing spot to lose....also SlyMonkey & Parker are in the mix plus, have a feeling a couple of smokies from this Blacktown team will be snapping at NRL to hopefully, keep the players honest.

Everyone assumes Matthew Wright is not even in the running but he was pretty solid last year, despite coming in after the season had started. He can kick goals. Just needs to sharpen his pace. He's still only 25 and has plenty of NRL experience.

Uate for me. He is a specialist and is still one of the best wingers if he's on his game. Locke is more of a 5/8/fullback.
