Yes there are some legitimate stories (which funnily enough they only seem to come out just before we actually make a player movement i.e. Mateo rumours) out there and it is valid to be concerned if the club is looking to recruit a player like bird however I always struggle to understand the over reaction to what could very well be a player manager driven story

Come Origin time and Greg Bird is one of the first names on the team sheet (along with Gallen and Hayne) in recent years. But his club form has never been in the same class as other backrowers of this era (Gift, Choc, Hoffman, Lewis etc).

I'm happy for us to pick up Nate Myles, but we start getting a couple of these older players and I'm questioning the direction. I think Myles will be great for Turbo and Sao etc.

Manly bolster coaching ranks
MANLY look set to sign North Queensland assistant coach John Cartwright next year.
Cartwright, the ex-Gold Coast Titans coach, would be willing to return to Sydney where he played his football with Penrith.
Manly coach Geoff Toovey remains under the pump, Cartwright perhaps coming in over the top as a coaching director.
Cowboys officials are already discussing the possibility of having to find a replacement for Cartwright.

I wouldn't say that. This Qld team is regarded as the greatest of the Origin era so does getting beaten mean you are crap? Especially considering Qld have rarely won games by massive margins, it's more they have found a way to win.

And the other thing is if the team is indeed crap, it doesn't mean it can't have good players.

I would say that for a very significant portion of this period, that the NSW team picked was a long long way from good. I would say that in that time we have repeatedly had the worst NSW team of the origin era. I'm not convinced the Qld team was that good, more NSW was that bad.

Think about the players that have been thrown in there. Anasta, Barrett, gidley, merit just so much rubbish in those teams. I will say bird was good last year but mostly is more of a name than a player

There was many a year that if NSW didn't pick Kurt Gidley the probably would have won. The he was playing in a key position in the spine was even funnier. Further that he was playing in spots he wasn't playing at club level was even better. And that Bozo or some other clown kept picking him to stuff up time and time again was just classic. The kind of stuff almost a decade in a row are made off. lol.
