one thing Des was good at was giving the attack structure the direct sweeping backline plays with dummy runners. It often worked in our favor even without turbo at times. again this is why he resigned Foran much to the aghast of many.

What I'm seeing right now is a flat attack unable to make the extra man. Tom at the moment is often confronted by 2 or 3 defenders over the last 5 or 6 weeks because what's happening on the inside just isn't working.

yes, Shoe injured is a major issue BUT as I said last year when there were calls for Des to go whoever replaced him needed to be better. So far im seeing a side leaking just as many points and an attack lost and confused.

Seibold and Flanno need to sort something really quick or the bell will start tolling.
Fair call

They look like they could play for days without really threatening

Spot on !!!
The Key word that you used here is Competing

Good Coaches get players to be competitive regardless of the playing roster quality
Those teams may lose but they do not get thrashed .

Once teams start to get Well beaten on a regular basis
It is a sign that their coach is lost for answers and keep coming up with the same excuses
And this quote I found says it all .
EXCUSES ARE TOOLS OF INCOMPETENCE
USED TO BUILD MONUMENTS OF NOTHINGNESS
You'll probably find the calibre of players Manly have aren't good enough to adapt to any defensive structures the coaching department set for them. It's time Manly starts cleaning out the players before the coach this time around.

Well as explained in my original post, I don't consider 2020 in this regard.

Without a doubt, last year the players gave up on Des. But again, circumstances were literally unprecedented and untenable, of which were out of Des' control. Aside from the usual injuries that happen at all clubs, Seibold has support throughout the club Des never had and really has no excuse after the sh*tshow he presided over at the Broncos
did they give up on Des or give up on each other? I don’t think Des got offside with the playing group. I think he was very diplomatic and sensitive to all his players. I’d hazard a guess that the factions within the playing group and the psychological fallout had more to do with our loses than Des. I could be wrong.

Yes true, but giving up on each other is also giving up on the coach. Regardless, never at any stage did I think Des was the issue

I’m more or less suggesting that there was no breakdown in relationship between player and coach. I think they all still liked Des but maybe didn’t like each other. From what I’ve heard, he protected the interests of both sides of the faction, but there were issues between players. Like I said, I could be wrong.

Well Penn , Seibs boss openly believes we have the team to win the comp. Based upon belief which Seibs would have bought into when signing up, its a 5 out of 10 at this stage. Anything less than top 4 is a fail imo.

Seibold I think is having a good look at this team and its weaknesses.

We have only played 9 games and I always believed that 2023 was an assessment season for the squad and that he and Flanagan will start making the hard calls soon.

It is obvious that our team right how has serious issues around key marquee players struggling with injury and confidence and a group of guys who are just not up to first grade standard.

Surely they see that we have a massive deficit in our hooker role. That is the heart of the team and we have a brave and willing guy doing a job who lacks the skills that the top hookers in the game have.

We also need to sort out our 6. This is the elephant in the room for me.

I see the team selected for this weekend and I think, how are we going to score many points? Our attack is woeful right now and there are no consequences for the mistake riddled last two games and the team is pretty much as you are.

Surely some of the guys are on their last chances. We need to see some competition for places, finally Blacktown are producing some results and that is healthy.

Seibold is new and I will give him the benefit of the doubt for now. I just hope that they are brave an pick the best team!

These players need to be shown the door,
Harper
Parker
Boyle
Alaoi
Sharon
Garrick
Tangalangi
Keppie
Croker

All dead wood and would not make any other NRL side. Bring some fresh talent.
So we need to find 9 new players? I would keep Garrick, Croker & Keppie off that list & put Alaoi on the bench .

Woods was on 360 tonight and said Eddie Jones was at Manly training today to pick up Koula's resume 😳

Well thats an interesting story. Since when do players have resumes? why would this take place at Manly training? these guys haven't heard of email?

I was very optimistic at the beginning of the season buoyed by pre season form and good selections. But Siebold has gone into the natal position (conservative and cautious just like Des did last year) and we have our feet stuck in mud again.

Our spine is busted. A fullback who can't run at full speed and is playing with no confidence. A 5/8 unfit and injured (and a fill in that offers very little), a half back who kicks the ball away early in the tackle count, makes poor last tackle options and frequently holds onto the ball when in the opposition red zone then stepping back inside and passing it to someone flat footed instead of giving good early service to the men outside of him (thank goodness he can tackle) and a dummy half that offers very little in attack (thank goodness he can tackle but he is busted).

Our side just doesn't have the discipline or smarts to get into the grind and play smart footy. Its a simple game. Finish your sets and put the ball into the corner on the last and belt them in defence forcing an error. Repeat sets, possession and minimal errors are the key but we just don't get it done.

Compare our spine to Souths - Mitchell, Walker, Ilias (good steady half back much like Tanner Boyd of the Titans) and Cook (plus class and speed in the centres and on the wing) , Brisbane - Walsh, Mam, Reynolds and Walters (uber speed and skill in the backs), Penrith - Edwards, Luai, Cleary and Kenny (their only weak link at the moment), plus great backs, Sharks - Kennedy, Moylan (in form), Hynes and Brailey and add powerful fast backs. These are the spines of the top 4 sides at the moment.

Penn can't be serious when he describes out our group as a top 4 side. Our recruitment and retention has been diabolical to say the least. particularly in the respect of outside backs (who's defence is feeble) and the absence of a specialist dummy half. The pack can't do it without a competent and fit spine. I agree the pack at times lacks grit and goes missing in action when the going gets tough. I don't believe they have confidence in the spine and I really question their fitness.

Yeah 100 percent agree with this. We almost need a complete rebuild and reset again for about the fourth time under Penns sole ownership. He’s had so many CEO’s and coaches since 2015 and ripped the football dept to bits and re built it so many times that we are constantly just starting again.

Best of luck to Mestrov and Siebold etc because manly is not an easy club to work with. We are nothing like the roosters or souths or even Cronulla now with how they have set their football clubs up.

As long as he doesn’t assess the team all the way to 17th on the ladder at season’s end.

Would be terrible.
Although... one silver lining ... we'd become the first ever team in rugby league to finish 17th! A record no-one could ever take away from us!
