Get Cleary

We won 7 of his 10 matches as coach, including a 44-14 win over grand finalists Broncos in round 21.

But its a results driven business.

We were dead last on the ladder until Round 17 that year (July 5, 2015).

The club announced Toovey was leaving on July 28 (it would have been known internally for a while that he was going).

A few of the players had clearly checked out that season, it was clear that the situation was untenable. But the next 10 years were rarely better.

So they checked back in for those last 10 rounds?

I was one of the lucky fans that shared the room with CEO Joe Kelly in Albury. That was round 5 and it was known then Toovey was getting the chop.

I have nothing against Seibold personally and I am sure he is a lovely fella, however, 'Hard arse bastard coaches' win premierships and the nice guys are all down the bottom.

Personally I think Toov's was just steamrolled for whatever reason and I found it sad. In all reality, aside from a few poor refereeing decisions, he should have been a premiership winning coach in his first year.
2nd year.

Ivan Cleary is contracted to end of 2027 at Penrith, and if Manly wants to win another premiership each decade since the 70’s, I believe Ivan will possibly achieve it, so they have to go after him with 'wallets open'.

If Manly sign Ivan from 2028 for 5 years, that will give Ivan two years to achieve the goal of a premiership each decade for Manly, but not only that decade. Ivan will attract players who want to win a premiership.

Why would Ivan want to sign and coach with Manly?

1) Nathan may want to play in the English Super League to be with Mary from 2028, so that would make it an easier decision for him, or even for Nathan to choose Rugby360, which if it actually eventuates, will be massive.

2) Imagine Ivan coaching Joey Walsh, Anotoni Large and his brother Ashton, along with Lehi and Koula, along with others he woud develop and attract to the club! We have a base, we just need the right coach and support staff.

3) Ivan is Manly, he started his career at Manly, so he understands the culture of Manly, and he will attract the type of players that embody the Manly culture.

Ivan Cleary, as coach looked in all sorts of trouble after round 12 this year and yet he still managed to instil a calm manner in the team and no panic. Penrith then went on a 9 game winning streak and while Penrith lost in controversial circumstances with the ‘Harry Grant Dive’ against the Storm, unless there are major injuries for Penrith, and Yeo returns from injury, I can actually see 5 premiership wins in a row.

If the Penn's really wanted to build value in the brand, they have to invest in the future, and Cleary, having played for Manly, would absolutely have all on the Northern Beaches embraced in membership and those who have suppported Manly outside of the Beaches.

The coaches who have won Manly prenierships have all been ex Manly players, and 'Hard arse bastrards'. Ron Willey, Cranky Frank, Bozo and Des, however, we need a change, as the culture of the playing group has changed throughout the NRL and we need someone who can embrace that and who has also played for and embraced Manly, and Ivan Cleary answers all those questions.
I remember when Ivan played for Manly and I remember thinking what a great player he was. However we also had Matthew Ridge at that time too, and Ivan moved on elsewhere to get more regular game time.

Now, I don't quite remember Tony Mestrov playing for us but I dare say that his playing days at the club likely overlapped with Ivan's playing days at the club and that they probably know each other on a personal level from those days.

So come on Mr Mestrov, show us why you have a reputation as being good CEO operator, use your personal connections and GET IVAN CLEARY HERE ASAP!
