Grizzly old fart
Jamil Hopoate, now aged 22, has been promising so much since he was 16. He was at one stage declared a better prospect than his brother Will. But his early larrikan behaviour followed by a serious criminal act, stalled what seemed a burgeoning League career. Discipline has been Jamil's Achilles's heel, and almost destroyed his career in 2014-15. But since his release from prison, he seems to have pulled his head in and has had an impressive staring role for Narraweena and then the NSW Cup teams in 2016.
2017 will be Jamil's make or break year. If his indiscipline rears its ugly head again he could end up as a byline in the Sea Eagles history. But if he maintains his resolve to concentrate on his football and not his silly mates, this kid could end up being something very special either in the forwards or as a centre. He's quick, evasive, solid, a tough defender, has almost Menzies like try scoring ability and could be a great match for Buhrer in our forward line up. Wouldnt surprise to see this kid in rep teams in the next year or two, if he maintains his present resolve. Manly needs to hold onto this kid.
