The thing with Brooks is that Manly have another option, Instead of teams trying to stop DCE now they have to worry about Brooks . Gives the team more options, Then throw in Turbo and if Schuster can get going it all won’t be on DCE which is great for the team

Brooks will both distract the defenders from DCE and DCE will have a lot more fun playing with this halves partner than the broken Foz and Schu.

Lyon played some 5/8 with Manly, Dylan Walker too and both could run, but neither really ever became our permanent 6.
Aside from them we'd have to go back what, 20 or 30 years? Or more!

Anthony Seibold has basically given Luke Brooks one simple instruction.

Let Daly (and Tom) run the attack, let Tom run the defence and all Brooks has do do is worry about his own game. And when Luke Brooks can do that ... he is a runner, with more than enough experience toi know when to do that and/or when to pass or kick.

When Brooks came into first grade with fellow NKOTB Mitch Mosses, he was a running 5/8 with Moses the half and Robbie Farah running the show from dummy half. His best year was 2018 when he won the Halfback of the Year award and came 3rd overall in the Dally M. That was when Benji Marshall returned to Wests. While Brooks still wore the No.7, the now much older and experienced Benji became the organiser, leaving Brooks to concentrate on playing his running game for the first time in about 3-4 years. And while the team's own form still wasn't enough for Finals, Luke himself had easily his best year in first grade because he was finally able to do what he knew - run.
And its that running game that our coach wants to see from our "new" 5/8. Let others worry about others, just get his own game right. Do that, and the team also benefits.

Such a dangerous player running at tiring defences at the back ends of 1st and 2nd half's, also, using decoy runs off Tommy and co just adds more strings to his bow.

Just had a slight question with Luke 's front on defence but if Sunday "s tackling effort is any indication , showed that there should not be any issues there .
Looks like his attacking game will be able to utilized really well also with the style of play Manly showed against the Bunnies .
Had some previous 6 "s in Manly "s new era who had a good turn of speed at least initially , Andrew Walker , Foz , Michael Witt, always liked Walker and Lyon there
Brooks also based on Sunday 's effort should be a definite attacking threat as a 6 and all round game sure to be right up there and prospect to better those previous notable or reasonable noted 6 's

My biggest concern was his defence and was pleasantly surprised on Sunday

Reading the WTF cesspit linked above, the one thing they surprisingly all agreed on without exception was that Brooks was a solid, dependable defender. I guess outsiders saw it differently and lumped him in with the rest of the Tigers players who were regularly getting pumped as a team

Trouble with tags about people is that they tend stick. Human nature really. Brooks struggles now and then in defense in a side going nowhere and suddenly he's a poor defender. I recall all the nonsense about DCE. Then there was Walker. Suddenly they blossom and all somehow is forgotten though the taste remains. Schuster for example is considered a questionable defender, yet in 2021 he was one of Manly's best. Doesn't take much. A couple make the comment and suddenly it becomes fact and the problem is that while not looking for similar flaws in others who haven't been identified with such issues, there is a microscope on the player with the tag so every mistake made reinforces the belief. Unfortunately that's one of the flaws we humans make over and again. Applies even in how we see other cultures as well.
