Jake Simpkin signed until 2026

Gee Zaidas number 9 looks quite big from that vid ,not sure how old he is but there would be multiple position available in the forwards for him going forward I would think
Here he is front and centre in November, unlikely to have got smaller since then.
I predict (without having seen him play, haha) an NRL debut for him soon, and also Navale to get another shot, maybe even this week, and this time hold his spot till end of year.
If we have Burbo Simpkin, Bull and Navale (and maybe even Zaidas) then instantly the pack loses a lot of the dads army feel.

I don't understand why Simpkins is not our starting hooker. Pure and simple we look better when he is playing.
I don't mind Jazz starting and Simpkin coming on after the "softening up". That's been working okay, and Simpkin gets the majority of the game at hooker that way. But my fear is Croker will be thrown back into the team after the bye and we'll be back to square one.

I thought Simpkin was good for the first 40 minutes, but his last 20 were a little pedestrian. Some of the service was lacking intensity; slow to select left or right and soft passing and we struggled to make ground. I like that he is prepared to run. Definitely think he’s the best we’ve got but still developing.

Because the first 20 minutes of tackling are the most intense and tiring of the whole match, and having the bigger/slower of your two hookers on in that period of the game allows you to preserve the energy of your smaller/quicker hooker.

If he is fit to play, let's hope the appeal is successful, as we need him against the Dogs.

The Sea Eagles have reportedly lodged a challenge with the NRL to clear Jake Simpkin to play this weekend. The hooker was hit by a nasty elbow from Nelson Asofa-Solomona and the knock was assessed as a category one concussion, but coach Anthony Seibold doesn’t believe it should have been assessed as such. “We don’t believe it was category one,” Seibold said. “The doctor assessed it was considered a category two (in the sheds).”

We definitely missed him in that 2nd half on the weekend. Am sure we would have scored a few more points had he been there. Also deprived us of a full bench. The rule needs to change regarding foul play. NAS should have gone off irrespective of being sin binned....or not.

If Guacca is back this week the bench selection will be interesting:
Waddle will have to be one. His form has improved so much recently.
Bully is a must.
Probably need another front rower which means Sippers.
Then it comes down to TT2 or Simpkins, if he is cleared to play.
For me, TT2 is too valuable to leave out of the 17, even though he failed to get on the field against Melbourne. He can cover most backline positions, and I think he'd also work in the backrow.
It's nice to have options.

If we're seriously considering him a bench utility then at some stage he should be given some game time.
Not sure that a specialist 3/4 on the bench is sustainable.
Pity Chee Kam hasn't banged the door down, because as recently as last year he has been a starting NRL player at both centre and second row.

It's a pity Tallis Duncan is signed by the Bunnies till 2027; he would fit this role well.
