I thought clubs were doing in club test for a couple of years now. Just not compulsory though I guess.

Clubs can do in house testing - the issue is what do they do with the results. You can put money on the fact that positive findings have been undisclosed and certain players have succumbed to 'serious injury' for a time. Herein lies part of the problem.

Does a club take harsh action against a player who is an important resource related to their main business - which is winning football matches?

Whilst a loose cannon, Joey won games for the Knights so why take action that might risk him walking (to somebody else) or loosing him for extended periods?
