This is what I think will happen with Patterson.
Probably got a 2 yr deal with Hull KR.
With the Pirates looking increasingly likely to be the next team into the NRL guess who'll be one of there first signings - possibility of being captain as well.
Him being from WA is my reasoning behind this

That's a fair assumption. Although i'm not sure how he'd end up the captain of perth if he can't even get a bench seat at the cowboys?

Perhaps, just perhaps, we stayed in the hunt to sign T-Rex for as long as possible, secretly knowing we were never a chance to sign him because we couldn't afford it but just played the game to make the Dogs pay more for him? ... perhaps ...
