It’s hard to do this, but Des has to go, his record as a player and a coach is not to be dismantled, however in saying that he has failed to evolve with and adapt to the modern game, I’ve followed this club and the game for 50 years, whats happening at the moment obviously goes far deeper than just the coach, the players need to accept some accountability, stand up and show some pride in themselves and the jersey, I’m pissed at the whole show, we are at rock bottom and odds on for our first spoon.
Des‘s flaws and loyalties have been well documented.
Our roster is questionable at best, losing quality players and the lack of recruiting is diabolical, the situation surrounding hooker, need I say more.
The players are clearly not match fit, granted its round one but the Modern game requires results from the get go, we were the only team to play one trail and it showed.
Andrew Davey was the only player to show any real enthusiasm and commitment to his work on Saturday and I would go so far as to say that stemmed from the culture and ethics instilled at Parramatta rather than anything to do what’s going on at our club
I don’t want to go on any further and bag Des, i just don’t see his tenure as a positive one, any Coach sitting on 11 from 12 would be in serious doubt anywhere else, it’s a mess, we need own it and do what’s necessary now sooner rather than later, extending his contract and or continuing with Des as coach will bring nothing but more of the same, sorry Des, its time for badly needed change,
Well written!

Fitzgibbon won’t be getting a job at the Chooks any time soon because Robbo will never be sacked. He is the Craig Bellamy equivalent at the Roosters.

Fitzy has said that he is ready to be a head coach but wants to honour his handshake agreement not to leave until his assistant role expires at the end of this year.

That means he is open to offers for 2022.
Rubbish
He will not coach manly nor any other man as the main man in the near future

The games changed, as with any job you need to adapt to new technology, methodology or whatever change comes with the role. I'd love for Des to stay but we need to see Des coaching in 2021, not 2007-2019. If he can't adapt, he isn't the best man to coach our team. Agreed that the players haven't stepped up either but accountability falls with the boss unfortunately. If Wayne Bennet can adapt at 107 years of age surely Des can!

Well if this is a sign of how the rest of the season unfolds then Hasler shouldn't be granted a new contract.

Can't see other decent coaches wanting to take the role though besides maybe cheat Flanagan

Well can't argue with someone who's profile pic is this....

600x200

And that's one contract I'm glad I'm not negotiating.

Des: I want three years!
Manly: You've lost a ton of games over the last 2 years.
Des: I didn't have a fullback, hooker, or 5/8 for most of that time.
Manly: We want some clauses as you like suing your ex-clubs.
Des: I want three years!

(repeat)

- Ums and Ahs removed for legibility.

Des isn’t gone yet. I suspect his position is no different to what is was at the end of last season. Except the 1st round loss and Buzz dangle berry at large pointing out the obvious in his BS big story. . The reality is Des has known all through the off season he and the team need to pull it together. There is no new story here.

Feel for Des but surely not all his fault. How much power and say does Des get on recruitment and contracts? To me looking from the outside it looks like the Bulldogs all over again when Hasler lost his control over the football department and from there went pear shaped quick.

We are not blessed with 3rd party coin
We have too much invested in too little

Des has always shown loyalty to his players, and to us fans to a fault. History has shown he has been able to get many players to stay for unders. This was part of pur success in the past until his promises of latter pay days unfolded in a big way

Walker and manase both signed under contracts due to the loyalty des has shown them, rightfully or not. This tactic has worked for us all in the past but isnt at the moment clearly . Did manase sign for 300k. That would work for us going forward

Its not looking good for dessie atm and nothing we say or do has much impact on that outcome. Just throwing some history and perspective into the convo

I wonder how much some of our plodders are really on and if loyalty has them signing much cheaper than we think , which makes replacing them harder

Just info, no opinion on players, des outcome just part of the talk. Loyalty is clearly not making enough tackles

Its dessies way, when it works its pretty nice

Remember the last stint at manly our core group directed much of manlys game plan. Not too many footy brains leading our players these days. Dumb as duck****

My understanding is that he is a control freak, so I don't accept your theory.
I'd like to hear him come out at a media conference and own up to his own failings. Several of the players being selected have proven they are not up to the standard of first grade, so why does DESpicable not give others a chance? Is it pig-headedness?

The press conference was extremely underwhelming.

I know he is a control freak but do you think he has anything to do with player contracts? Also recruitment has been the same since Penn's took over and Manly have in that time had dud players. I think recruitment needs to go if Hasler goes.

I still take the sack Dessie thread as a bit of a laugh, but as they say .. life imitates art .... whilst most things I say here are tongue in check ... I do believe that after 2 full years and 3 full preseasons ... this year is make or break for him ... he will need to show he is the man to take all these young guns coming through to the premiership ...
Exactly mate he saw the problems last season and had from then all through preseason to address them but nothing has changed 10 11 losses in what 13 games and with the points that were put on us is horrific for a club like manly..if he cant fix it 3 seasons in then he needs to go

Everyone talks Fitzgibbon up - I don't mind him but I am circumspect about the guys that are marked as the next supercoach.

In any event, I don't think we have a chance of getting him. When he takes a FG head coach role, I think it will be with a club that has resources and is not as far in the sht as we are at the moment.

More likely is that we will only be able to attract a coach that is desperate to prove that they can coach (or still coach) in the NRL (kind of like Des was when he came back).
But wont we have our coe by then..all new and shiny and with a pool surely that counts as a dangling carrot
