Match Stats

The night after and I'm still hyped from our win. I'd given us no chance especially without Haumole. What a gutsy, gritty, game the whole team played. It was certainly one of our best, if not the best, of the season so far.

Some highlights included Lehi's tackle on Coates over the touchline, DCE's tackle on NAS and Reuben's length of the field effort to almost run down Coates and best of all we overcame the grubbiness of the Scum in Melbourne and with very high completions.

It's inexplicable how we get flogged by the lower teams, yet can play like that against the top teams...and hopefully we'll keep it up.

One thing I am struggling to figure out from last night's game.

We lost Simpkin to a Cat 1 HIA caused by an illegal elbow to his head from Nelson. So why weren't we weren't allowed to activate the 18th player??

We lost a player to a HIA directly caused by foul play. Isn't that supposed to be an automatic activation of the 18th player??
Because NAS wasn't sent .... its a stupid rule that needs to be changed

Just watching the replay and a couple of typical storm grubby plays I noticed.

After we scored to make it 6-6, as Rueben is moving in to take the conversion from the sideline, Nelson who is warming up on the sideline runs directly passed him, and there is no way it wasn’t intended to deliberately distract the kicker. Ruben stared in his direction after the kick missed.

And when Grant scored their no try, Hughes runs in and gives Jake a massive spray after he missed the tackle. Who does that?

Typical Storm.

Bellyache coached sides do that, you left out Moneys carry on towards Tom, after the Coates try, the Storm are the biggest bunch of grubs in the game, chicken wings, rule benders, cheats, salary cap rorters, did I leave out wankers? Purple scum…….

Consistency is the key for all teams, not just Manly.

All teams are capable of playing well on a given day, but not many have been able to maintain a consistent standard.

Dogs, Wahs Storm and Raiders have been most consistent, so far. Broncos Chooks and Panthers were poor early on, but recently have become consistent. Sharks started as consistent but then fell away.

And if lower sides like Titans and Knights played each week as well as they did against Manly ... they'd probably be in contention too!

Yes the win was great but its the way we won that makes it special. The forwards worked their buts of whilst our halves played solid football and our backs defended gallantly. It was good to see DCE have a big game and that tackle on Solomona summed up his effort. Maybe a some comradery building within the squad I really hope so.

And the humdinger...Loiero pushing/shoving, of all players, Jake who wouldn't hurt a flea! Poor Jake, who'd just had his face rubbed into the ground is then penalised for reacting to it.

As @Brookie1973 said, typical Storm.

That’s right, the ref said the penalty was against Jake for pushing first, but if you look at the replay, loiero walks off the mark, then pushed Jake, who then pushed back. Complete bull****. And loiero has the most punchable head amongst a storm team of punchable heads. If a Wall Street investment bank circa GFC formed a rugby league team, it would be the Melbourne storm. All sleaze beneath a thin veneer of respectability.

It wasn’t deemed to be foul play by not being sin binned or sent off.

Absolutely spot on. Loiero was the first pusher.

The reason we lose to the crap teams is all attitude. We often score a soft try or two and go into cruise mode. You can’t do that against any side in the NRL, even the Titans and Newcastle. You can see our intent in our line speed and energy in contact; we kept making it hard for the Storm to ruck the ball out of their own end and subsequently starved them of opportunities. The same intent and the same patience with the ball will easily account for the Titans and Knights, which makes those loses all the more frustrating.

They were clearly up for that game - bit worried about being up again for another big game this week. Still, I think Dogs are there for the taking if we match the same levels we reached vs storm.

yeh, line speed was the key in defence and no errors with the ball. Burbo played a good game for once. Looked like he had more stamina and pace in defence. Taukeiaho played well also.
