The Daly Cherrygraph

I'm not sure he's worth signing on a fudged contract to then have him hang around for a few years in any coaching role to make up the shortfall.

If coaching was a goal, I thought manly offered something similar, his lifelong club, close to home It would be interesting to know of the individuals who dce feels made him feel he needs to walk away from the club.

The penalty that won the Dogs the game was an absolute howler!

On the contrary, It’s disappointing that no one in the call mentioned that Simpkin was incapable of pressuring Grant from marker because of the elbow…it was the correct call given it’s not only an act of foul play, it directly impacted our defensive line.

I also think Hoffman’s (obvious Melbourne bias) comments in the media that Grant made minimal contact with Brooks and it was a terrible decision are forgetting that it’s much like every other protective rule in the game, in that it’s designed to deter as a way of preventing injury. Sure, Brooks was fine but no penalty there says fair game to the rest of the NRL and an eventual broken leg or ankle down the track.
That the NRL defended the Dogs decision as correct just shows how much they lack in a feel for the game. It's a manufactured product these days & has lost much of its authenticity & purity.

Funniest part in all of this is that Roosters' fans (yes, all three of them!) really, really don't want Cherry at their club. Could be an interesting season for him over there.

As long as he keeps putting in for Manly for the rest of the season, the fact this "news" is coming out now should make no difference to us.

Good for him, hopefully he gets a big pay day. Was disappointed after the TV announcement but he has stood up these last few games & shown a lot of commitment to the team for the rest of the year. Fogarty playing great footy all year has also made it easier to live with 😃

With their class young forwards and gun backs he'll be a star over at Chooks, I reckon.
Hopefully they fail to make a GF though, that would really be rubbing our faces in it.
(Or - imagine a Manly v Chook GF!) (probably optimistic)

Only one year and second year turned into a coaching position. I am only interested how he performs for the rest of this season. After that it's on him I don't care.

I’ve noticed they concede on the inconsequential decisions (to appear impartial) but if it basically decides the game, they’ll fight the good fight and protect themselves at whatever cost.

It’s the “ one year contract “ that surprises me , I thought one of the major reasons he was leaving is we only wanted to offer one year , he wanted two.

But I guess yes ALL about the $$$$$

So no big deal , he plays 2026 for say $400k and then gets 1.3 million a year for two years coaching ( nudge nudge wink wink turn up for half a day on Thursdays , every second week ).

I cringe when I here it being called a product, but that is exactly what they want it ti be, an entertainment product

Which makes it even harder to take imo.
How or who f$&ked it up to the extent that he felt staying here was untenable?
Easy , it’s the $$$$$$$$

I bet Penn doesn’t spend a dollar more than the NRL grant on coaching ( which I believe is 5 million a year ) whereas Uncle Nick says “ hold my beer “.

Let’s compare the pair ( using totally made up dollar figures but to show my thoughts on how it would have gone down).

D$E , hey Tony I’m thinking about playing two more years whatcya reckon ??

Mestrov, nah we think you’ll be good for maybe one last hurrah , how about $550k for one final contract

D$E , nah Tony , I’m worth at least a million a year for two years , I’m QLD captain you know.

Mestrov , sorry D$E we think it’s time to bring up a youngster and we can’t afford to do that by paying you two million.

D$E , GDay Nick , interested in signing me for two years at a million a year.

Nick , no way D$E, we’d love to have you but we’d need to do it another way , how about $400k for next year and then $1.3 million a year for two years coaching . Of course we’d only need you for 3 hours on a Thursday , every second week OH and I can sweeten the deal with an on air contract for Chan 9, another $750k a year , just the footy season , two shifts a week plus SOO & GF.

D$E , where do I sign !!!!

What are Politis's connections to Channel 9? How's he able to lure DCE (and others) with sweetners to Channel 9? What's his involvement there? Does have he a stake/share/etc with channel 9? (genuinely curious).

i understand that DCE could play on for a second year at the roosters depending how his body holds up with both parties to sit down and discuss after the first year.Nick and Trent believe DCE has the makings of a very good coach and a high football IQ and that he fits in with their culture . The coaching gig is real and the roosters are always forward planning for the future.. its a well run business unlike hands off Penn ...i just put managers on and hope for the best.
