Matt Bowen just announced he will be retiring at the end of the year.

I wonder who replace him?

http://www.nrl.com/matt-bowen-announces-retirement-from-nrl/tabid/10874/newsid/74346/default.aspx

Clint greenshield I think it is whose been filling in for them when Bowes been out, unless he's moved on for next year.

Greenshields was going to hang up the boots too I think. He may reconsider now.

Gone back to France with his missus

The way some were performing in the U20s and NSW Cup this year suggests we do need an influx and perhaps a little reassessment regarding the worth of some players and coaches. One standout for me in the juniors though has been Trbojevic. Seems consistently he is the major force in teams he plays for. He will be something special in the next few years.

The NYC was awesome tonight!

So happy to see them continue their lead in the second half and earn a well deserved win.

The #12 and Jake were the standouts.

The only weak link in our club at the moment seems to be Willo's lack of coaching ability.

We desperately need a decent NSw cup coach next year to nuture the talent that we have. 54-0 and 60-6 score lines are unacceptable to this club..

Maybe Kingy can take on the role once he retires.

What does winning the NSW Cup really mean - nothing.

We need a core of 25 players in our NRL squad and the 17 are starting leaving 8 if no injures. Hopefully if they fix up the second tier contracts then you can plan a full team but now you put your NRL 8 players with players you hope will step up like Hasson has this year.

TBH NSW Cup is a nothing comp and is the waiting room for injured players.

We don't necessarily need to have a NSW team that wins the competition but one that is competitive would be a start.

Our current team is a rabble and if snake is out this week and hiku plays full back who do we have that can come up and play wing?

Gagan? Farrar? Williams? Nasso? Maybe Cuthbo on lend from the knights? None of these guys are FG standard.

NSW cup will be played before FG either next year of 2015 so it will become a very important stepping stone for players to go to FG

Go thought but unfortunately Kingy is too smart to be a coach.

Gagan / Farrar would do the job but have a look at most NSW Cup sides they are not that strong and this year was the first since moving from the Sunshine Coast that Manly have spent money on second tier contracts NSW Cup.

Means our topline players become complacent if they don't have players pushing them in my opinion.

. . . A junior with the Cairns Kangaroos, Hodges has played 30 matches in the under-20s competition for the Cowboys, including all 22 so far in 2013.

He leads the NYC in most tackles made, highlighted by 58 against the Brisbane Broncos in round six, and is also top three for the Cowboys in try assists, linebreaks, linebreak assists, tackle breaks and offloads.
Yeah but what about tries? Field goals? 40/20s? Sounds like a dud to me.
Also not sure why we signed that lod from the Tigers. Is a lod something we need?

I agree, to a point. If you're getting flogged badly week after week, it dissolves confidence in the individuals and as a group. This creates a larger gap from the step up to the NRL level.

I don't see a NSWRL or U20s Premiership as been anything but a bonus, but you don't want those sides getting belted continually when it contains more than a handful of experienced players.

But this is the first year we have spent money on our NSW Cup side and our only problem is we keep unearthing young new talent and we lose them due to the cap restantants. If we can hold on to the fringe players then next year will be better.

The concern is that on paper it is a solid, mid-table side. Not one to get their arses handed back to themselves regularly!!!

The performance is not an improvement from the last few seasons when much, much less went to the NSW Cup squad financially.

Something is wrong and needs to be addressed in 2014 or we'll start to see some real depth problems on the back of a high rotation of players through the NSW Cup side, as players aren't prepared to wear beltings for the purpose of just giving game time to those earmarked for the NRL.

In a way I feel many players have regressed under Willo's coaching.
