A win based on guts there. No ball, smashed in the penalties, lost 2 players to injury during the match but still came out on top
Jorge Taufua, I wanna boof him get him up here. What a try to seal it. I think it's fair to say if Brett is on we don't score that try and Soward wins a shootout
Huge effort from Cherry with the ankle tap, and then Wolfman to sprint across and cut off any danger on that play in the final few mins
Hard to give a pass or fail to any of our bench men attack wise, Rose and Hasson weren't on when we had the ball and Tonga out of position on the wing
The refs were absolutely hopeless and mind boggling, 9-3 penalties is a joke. They knocked the ball on a couple of tackles before 1 of their tries, they missed Foran being pulled out of play chasing a charge down, and Jamie gets told "we didn't see it and we can't rely on your word" lol
What we can't let that reffing display over shadow though is some of the poor areas of our play that we need to look at tonight
Offloading - A good offload is a big weapon in the game, but it needs to be controlled, we are just flinging it out the back blind on most occasions, Choc the biggest culprit and Lawrence is always keen too
Discipline - When the refs are on a role against you, we need to try and be squeaky clean, a hand on the ball in the last 5mins is unacceptable when we have a 6pt lead
Defence - Seemed to be a slight tweak to our structure tonight and it was a lot more compressed, and Soward was able to exploit that with long balls, our scramble saved us but it is something we need to look at. I was thinking a lot of it was to do with Symonds playing out of position but Lyon was infield a lot as well
Those were my main areas of concern out of it
Pre match I was concerned about playing Symonds out of position, and although he was solid, I still hold the view that a specialist would do a better job. He was slightly out of position in defence a few times and we lost a lot of his impact with the ball playing him that little bit wider. Happy to see Matai back next week
Another observation for me is that Horo runs nearly the toughest lines of any player in the comp, what a pickup he has been
A lot of good stuff to take out of tonight into next week, gutsy wins like that can give a side huge self belief
Am slightly concerned what that defensive effort may have taken out of our tank and roll into next weeks game, and we will need to improve again to beat the Roosters, but I'm fairly confident we can beat them. Will be the biggest buildup to a game they have had for a while so will be interesting to see how they handle it
