[Resurrected] Tom Wright

You know it is okay that he better at union / more suited to it than NRL (and that he is playing well bit may not have done the same at Manly due the differences in the game)

Or we can say manly are a horrible club etc

We know how to choose the good ones and then let them go before they show what they can do. Gutherson, Wright, Weekes etc. Boy we could have used those three in the last decade. But no, the recruitment group knew best, didn't they, despite the protests of the fans. Captain and best player of the Eels, full back for the competition leader Canberra, Wallabies full back and one of their stars. Yeh
Gutho now at Dragons.

How does he go with 2nd rowers and big centres running at him on every set?

He may well could have carved out a career in league, we will never know.

Manly didn't let Wright go to another NRL club, they recognised he wanted to return to Union. If it didn't happen then, it would have happened after his contract with Manly finished.

He had some good moments at Manly, but wasn't ready for a full time 1st grade spot. He needed more time in reserves and taking his opportunities in 1st grade to improve.

If he chose not to do that and go back to Union, so be it and good luck to him. If a player decides he wants to go back to union, there is not much an NRL club can do.

Easy in hindsight but only position that Tom Wright was close to maybe securing in a Manly backline spot was as a winger in the 2 nd year of his then 3 season contract
Still not assured and did not seem to be too many complaints when he asked for an early release with one more contact year to go and Manly of course obliged
Always had heaps of natural ability and if he has been able to utilize it well at the higher levels of R U , full credit to him

Never had a serious chance Al. Played four first grade games with Manly and I think at least two of those games were not full 80 minute affairs. There is no way you could determine a player's potential after that short a time, yet Manly let him go. It was intended that he play centre according to Barrett. If he played wing for a time, so what. Brett Stewart played one first grade match in 2003 and had to wait until Rond 9 the following season to get a more permanent crack at full back. Turbo started his career on the wing. Manly's recruitment in the past decade has stuffed up big time with their selections, starting with the Gutherson debacle. DCE was another. Then there's Wright, letting Walker go, Weekes etc. Would be different if Manly was competing at the top. But they've been also rans for most of that time and much of the blame rests with those selections as well as the salary cap stuff up that cost us competitiveness for at least one to two seasons. Sorry I lost all respect for their nous years ago.

With us he was playing 5/8th or in the centres. I am not sure that he makes it in league in those positions. Too much defensive workload. We have Turbo at 1 so that is not an option and we probably can't match what the Brumbies are offering if he is playing on the wing. As others have said, he may have been the one to see this and has asked for a release to head back to union.
