Let’s wait until the dust has settled completely.

I said ( before the Green defection ) that we were a couple of forwards short of being top 4.

I still think that’s the case, even with a Hastings / Metcalf option.

We have been bagging young Jackson on here for a while but consider this.

2018 is his BIG CHANCE.

The kids talented , no doubt, but has lacked the committment prior to this.

He could possibly never have a.better chance to step up and show his wares , it could be the making of the player.

Could I know isn’t a guarantee but stranger things have happened.

If anyone says that Brock Lamb is the one we should have instead I am going to crawl through the internet, come out at their end and beat them to death with their own stupidity.

Jackson Hastings is a much better option. Hell, I'd even want Tom Wright there before Lamb who was like a deer in the headlights whenever he got the ball this year.

Lamb Shank anyone?

My concerns:
X Jake will only just be coming back from serious off season surgery
X Dylan won't be back until potentially round 6
X Parker had season ending injury
X Sironen / Lussick are still just getting match fitness back
X Lost our starting Centre (Walker), Prop (Lawrence), Depth prop (Myles) & 5/8 (Green)
X Have 0 1st grade experienced recruits
X Cartwright / S. Fulton are our recruiters (unable or inable to attract talent)
X There is still a huge staff bully in the fitness ranks
X Still have Salary Cap accusations live & well
X Contacted The Sea Eagles about 3 reserve seat tickets equating to 1.5k (they didn't bother replying)
X Club talks about the quality juniors (Blacktown came last, NYC came 8th on for and against)

I have some small trepidation going into season 2018 both on and off the park.
NYC won the comp - why would you make out like they didn't perform?

They were terrible most of the season, and barely scraped into the finals at all. It's fantastic that they won the thing, but I'm going by a seasons form, rather than 2-3 games (and let's just say that last game was more luck than anything).

They aren't world beaters you'd pass up marquee players for (which is what Barrett has alluded to). Honestly, apart from maybe Fainu, not one of them is anywhere NEAR 1st grade quality (well, maybe Parker is).

Keep reading how MP wanted to come to Manly but the dollars won out in the end...

I hope the newcastle fans/team mates/mgt are all happy with this attitude he's taking there (if true).

Maybe he'll still end up here!

lol

They were stone motherless last the year before - they brought in new players and a new coach and went from the spoon to premiers in one year. That is a fantastic performance.

You can't expect a new team and coach to be outstanding from the get go. It took the regular season to build combinations and then they flew home through the finals. I don't agree the last game was luck either - they played fair and came home to win at the death.

As for players ready for first grade - you could say that about any U20 side in the Comp.

Of course there not first grade quality they are essentially still kids, growing into their bodies, they work or study full time , football comes second, look at any nyc game and team they are yet to learn and apply defensive patterns of the 1st grade teams.

So do you agree with the strategy of saving cap space to re-sign these unknown quantities? I mean, I don't see any standouts (JWH, Foran, Edwards, Gutherson, Turbo) were a few of those types as example.

Gee how we have missed your insight

I said a few days back that it was always going to be about money and, to nobody's great surprise, it was. Now for the justification: excited to be a part of Newcastle's rebuild, etc, etc. If it was the Sharks, excited to be part of a genuine premiership contender. Us, excited to be playing for Trent and Sirro, etc…
So, all you folks in Newcastle, lock up your dachshunds!

Maybe that's why lamb is looking elsewhere - he's frightened about what might happen?

The more I think about it the more I think that this is the best outcome for us.

If you think about it, we were weakest in our forwards last year. Missing out on Pearce Means that we have cash left to spend on more than one position. I think that is the best outcome for us in the future.

Also, we had been buying up a few young halves which indicates that the club was thinking long-term in that regard anyway.

No one would pick up Hodko.
His body is shot :(
Are you sure? I know I'm clutching at straws but he's 29, a good goalkicker and I think him partnering DCE may have worked well.

Also is Maloney signed, sealed & delivered with Penrith or still being finalized?

Very disappointing we failed with Pearce but can't blame him. Obviously took the $ versus 1) a chance at another premiership, 2) playing Origin, 3) staying in Sydney.

Glad we didn't keep Green against his will though - by the sounds of it that was not an option.

Newcastle have recruited pretty well. Ponga, Moga, SKD, Watson, Guerra, Essesse and now Pearce. Got some good young forwards in Saifiti's, Fitzy, Barnett, Sione Mat, and Ferris/Lilyman add some experience. They may just be a hooker short of being a top 8 threat. I can't see them being wooden spooners next season. I can see the attraction and he defo would be getting $1mil + there. No top line half goes for less than that these days.

I am still at a loss with all the players they have bought that they still have heaps to spend in their Cap, Ponga is on a good wage. Maybe its because they were previously owned by The NRL
