Darren,

I don't hate people because of their religion, I hate religion for what it does to people.

Euthanasia, Gay relationships, Contraception, abortion (a woman's right) stem cell researcg

They're all controversial topics because of religious beliefs.

It's 2013, grow up people!

I have gay friends, and they want to get married and have babies. Happy to help if i can as well.

I always ask them, WHY though? Marriage just means you no longer will have sex lol.

I don't see why in this day and age what the problem is. They gays have every right to suffer the burden of marriage like us hetros lol

Gay marriage doesn't bother me at all. This is because as a heterosexual male with 2 kids, marriage means nothing to me either. I'm not married, never will be.

Sorry Darren and Panash, it's ridiculously simplistic to say everyone is entitled to their opinion.

Speaking about homosexuality in the same breath as Satan is about as close to openly advocating gay-bashing as it gets.

Did you apply the same logic to Andrew Johns's right to call Greg Inglis a black c***?

You've got your Abbo's mixed up mate
Congratulations.
You have managed to come up with the most offensive and ignorant post in this thread. And somehow you achieved all this without even referring to sexuality or religion.

Have a look at the IOC charter

http://www.olympic.org/about-ioc-institution

The attitude of the Russian government is a threat to this.

If you think its fair that people are discriminated by their sexuality then you have no problem with the Russians.

Their laws which basically are going to outlaw gay rights is a problem. The Russians are where Australia was in 1978.

Time will change this.

Is it illegal to be gay, lesbian or bisexual in Russia? Ones sexual preference, kink, fetish or turn on is a private matter.

I have no problem with sex education and identifying Gay/Lesbian sex in this manner but promoting any form of sexual lifestyle be it gay, lesbian, having a 3some, bondage, straight or gay public sex etc etc to minors is not necessary.

Tc I would think the issue here is education of young people

As you can read from the Webster article clearly it is difficult for some gay people to accept and work through their sexuality

My understanding of the Russian law is that it will remove the support systems for the vulnerable people going through this

I have a young son - if he is gay I hope he receives all the support possible

We can only debate what the law states not "it will remove the support systems for the vulnerable" until we see widespread proof this is happening.

There is a difference between promoting a lifestyle or sex act be it straight, gay or lesbian and education, although i do see the point that a celebration is in itself an awareness campaign to the vulnerable.

Mardi Gras has abused the celebration aspect and has become more about the festival than the original message.

I also do not see the point of public nudity or wearing skimpy outfits to create awareness it is more about individuals enjoying the spotlight for the wrong reasons.

Sex education is ok, promotion that is more about the celebration than the message is not in my eyes.

I think in some respects what Russia is doing is ok but i can see the potential negative side also. For example you could easily track the more open sexual nature of todays youth and the type of sex that is considered normal these days to the rapid proliferation and exposure to free online porn.

We are willing to accept that children exposed to violence be it through games, tv or in person can have an effect on a childs mental development, why run the risk it could also sexually have an impact even though i believe we are born "Straight or Gay/Lesbian".

We are still learning all the time of the impact increased exposure to certain content has on a developing brain. We do know there has been a change in the type of sex occurring in today's youth that can be traced back to porn so erring towards being a little more conservative and less propaganda i think is a good thing.

Now i am no prude in relation to what is acceptable in the bedroom but do we really need to flood the brains of a developing child with so much information beyond what is considered educational.

I can see why there is fear surrounding what Russia could potentially do but also don't like big brother organisations promoting the one world one law agenda there is a fine line. To me the line in the sand moment is if Russia made it illegal to be gay or lesbian but as the law stands now I'm not against the way the law is set out as long as it is not abused.(too early to say at the moment)

This thread is pretty controversial. I'd like to say this.

My son is 18 months old, I love him and my daughter dearly, if one day when he is a teenager, my son comes home and says "Dad I have something to tell you" and opens up to me and tells me his secret "Dad I've found God"

I will have to kick him out of my house.

What for? For lying? How can you find something that doesn't exist?

How indeed? Let me count the ways.

- You are ignorant for using the term 'Abo'. If you think that's inoffensive I suggest you google it before you inadvertently offend more people.

- You are ignorant because it was Inglis that Johns was speaking about. Tahu heard it because he was in the Blues camp. Tahu left in protest at how another Aboriginal was being denigrated.

- You are ignorant because you can't spell.

Tc not sure if there are any little tc's running around but any parent will tell you that , as much as we do not like it, kids are getting forms of sex info much earlier

A friend of mine had to have the "talk" with his 9 year old daughter

Why? As someone had told her she could get pregnant by holding hands with a boy . Another had to have the chat with their 10 year old son

Personally I would rather my son is educated about sex, correctly, when he starts to ask questions rather than misinformation

Despite what I just said to Stevo*, this thread covers some very personal and sensitive areas and I feel it's worth acknowledging that in the main it's been conducted in reasonably good spirit, from what I've seen anyway. (Well, at least in better spirit than what I feared it would be, based on some previous ST debating debacles.)

So, many different opinions but credit where it's due.

* (which I should qualify by saying I think his comment was ignorant, not stevo himself who might in other respects be the opposite of ignorant for all I know)

I agree. I'm sure this same debate wouldn't be conducted this way among other fanbases.
I have to admit. Kiwi eagle disappoints me I expected a ladyboi slur directed my way.

He must be mellowing.
